I've had my laptop for about a year and a half and the screen recently started flickering.
It usually flickers when i open my laptop to more than a 100 degree angle and when I change its position.
Sometimes the whole screen will black out and I won't be able to see ANYTHING but black, but other times only sections of it will black out.
Oh, and it flickers more when it's not connected to the AC adapter.

Sorry if I didn't do a good job of explaining. unsure.gif , I hope someone can help!

oh thats a slippery road of diagnostics. Its hard because there are so many possibilities.

For example
if the light sometimes looks slightly pink or blue its like when a fluorescent bulb burning out, that means the backlight bulb is burning out. Only a $20 part but can be really hard to replace

However if the screen just goes off or blinks like that, it could be so many things...
inverter board - a circuit that converts the laptop power into high voltage to power the light. Yeah it sounds scary, but it won't kill you just hurt if you touch it. Its needed because the bulb is filled with gas and it sorts needs to float across the tube.

Ribbon cable - connects the screen to the mainboard. Very cheap usually not too hard to fix, often indicator of damage is when you open it to a angle and the screen turns off. It might be loose or damaged. Possible cause here.

The bad one - video chip on the mainboard is damaged or overheating. Nothing much you can do. Right now that's what happened to my laptop after sending it in for repairs. I think they jabbed my video chip or something.

So try upgrading your video drivers, hope its a power management issue and not hardware because in not sure any of you want to do those repairs.

From what you've said.. I think it might be the ribbon cable, cause everything just goes blank now if i try to angle it 120+ degrees. How much would it cost to get it fixed?

Search for it on ebay, they should go for under $20.

If you can find a nice service manual it might be easy to replace. It DOES get involved like you will get to the point where you're like OMG my laptop is in 16 pieces!! But if you work carefully its not so bad.

Basically, you need to remove the keyboard, probably the little panel above the keyboard, and the frame around the lcd.
Then you remove the LCD, carefully unplug the ribbon, and unplug it from the mainboard of the computer.

That is the whole process simplified. Since you were so helpful with the model number and diagnostics, http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Tosh...-notebook-1.htm thats how they take it apart. Just go give you an idea. Im not sure how much it would cost, I prefer the hands on approach but thats me.

It looks to me the problem is a hardware part. And it seems that a flat cable that connects the LCD to the "motherboard" is dying. It will stop working soon obviously, so you will have to replace it. Or its just out of the spot, but that is rarely...
