The opening keynote address from the president of Panasonic, Toshihiro Sakamoto, had one thing that Bill Gates' keynote yesterday lacked: A monstrous 150-inch plasma screen Panasonic calls the Life Screen. In Las Vegas and at CES, nothing counts quite so much as excess, so it looks like Panasonic has bragging rights for this year.

Everything else Sakamoto showed off paled in comparison, but there were still some pretty spiffy demos. Panasonic has a new plasma that's just ONE INCH thick, and consumes half the power of last year's model -- nice.

What I wonder is, how anyone will get this through their doors lol

And some of you may already heard of Sony's OLED TVs. I thought it was crazy enough that they were able to make a 27" tv only 1cm thin and their 11" only 3mm thin. Now THAT was impressive.

Sony's 2.5-inch, 160-by-120-pixel OLED prototype can be bent into a semicircle while playing full-motion video.

Yeah, this is pretty cool. It's a plasma, not an LCD, btw.

that big plasma is probably good for public displays, ads, etc, but not for home viewing crazy.gif

im sorta interested in the OLED stuff though. once they mass produce these, it will translate into thinner cell phones, music players, monitors that consume less power

My classmates, teacher and I wasted the whole class period, discussing this.
It was really amusing. We even gathered all the meter rulers to estimate how big it was.
Ahah, that was one good class smile.gif

Wow, flexible OLED. I am drooling. I wonder if that means more flexible/durable music players in the future?
