has anyone read Harriet Jacobs "Incidents in the life of a slave gir"?
i am writing about equality and how Harriet is trying to awaken the empathy of all women to help others

here is my paragraph on equality. please make any suggestion you want. I need help badly!!

Harriet Jacobs request that every woman who had experience the reality of inequality to step up to the plate in order to help others like them.

"But I do earnestly desire to arouse the women of the North to a realizing sense of the condition of two millions of women of the South, still in bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most of them far worse."

First off Harriet shows these women that she has nothing to gain by telling them about her past reality, in fact she is taking a big risk. But by taking a step forward she is telling them I have done my job now you do yours. Harriet hopes to awaken these women inner feelings because no matter what color or social status every woman has suffered some form of unequal treatment. Harriet paints a vivid picture with the verbs she used; she makes real to them the awful truth of how women are really treated in the South. She uses statistic to point out that it not just a few but the majority including the white wealthy planter elite wife.

"I pitied Mrs. Flint, She was a second wife, many years the junior of her husband; and the hoary head miscreant was enough to try the patience of a wiser and better woman."

In the quote above Harriet wants her reader especially the white women in the South to awaken their empathy to help the black slave women who experience the same inequality treatment as them. Harriet was the subject of Mrs. Flint jealousy, but Mrs. Flint was the subject of her own jealousy, because she is a better and smarter woman. But she does not realize that because of the status quo that woman have to deal with in the South. Her husband does not view her as someone who deserves equality. If he did he would not have eleven slaves children by abundant of different slave women. The slave holder treats their own wife like a prize possession. Their disrespectfulness towards women leads them to treating them unequally and if you take away someone equality to take away their freedom.
