even if you didn't like the food? (btw, this is YOU at the restaurant, not with your family)

For me, I always tip at a resteraunt, $3... And if it's really good it's $5. Mainly my tip goes to the service tbh, I eat it whether it's good or bad, but if the person didn't care at all, handed the food rude, didn't check on us (to fill drinks) once in a while, the tip goes to me.

No avoiding the question like "depends what I order", etc

if the service was pretty decent, I'd leave some tips, not a lot though. tongue.gif It's not the server's fault that I (or.. you?) didn't like the food.

If it was good and service was good, I'd leave around 10 - 15 % of the bill. ^^

If overall I hated it.
I'd leave nothing. ;D

Yes, whenever I go to food places and restaurants with my friends we always leave a tip, it's just a matter of the amount being small or big. xD The food is usually fine and the services/servers are okay, so our tips would range from $2-$5 (sometimes we're on low budget). tongue.gif

If service was good and server was friendly/noncondescending/nice and checked back often, then 20%.
if normal then 15.
And 10 at the minimum.. unless everything was completely horrendous.

Yea I always tip but not on the food though. I do it on service. Once my friends and I forgot to tip at a Korean restaurant because we thought that it was included in the total. After paying, we went downstairs to the bathroom. When we came out of the bathroom, the waitress was asking us for the tip. I was like WTf?!? She wasn't supposed to ask us for a tip. But we tipped her anyways because we were sort of embarassed. After that incident, I always look carefully at the check. :-D

If the service is good, I leave at least 15%.
If the service is bad, I still leave around 15% but I don't care if it goes a little under.

Me & my sister used to be waitresses.. so we know how little people can give.. regardless of how good you serve them. I've seen 10 cents for a $6 dish!

We usually tip more than 20%, 15% if we barely get any services.. that's only at restaurants though.
If it's at a buffet, we tip 10-20%... they don't serve you, but they do pick up your dirty dishes.
If it's a carry-out, we leave them 5-15%. someone boxed & bagged the food...

minimum of 15%
but usually more like 18-20%

i feel obligated to because waitressing is tough and a lot of the time people only leave a few dollars, no matter how big the bill =/

I usually tip 10-20% depending on the service. Usually more at american restaurants than asian ones cuz the service is usually better. Lately, the asian restaurants I've been to, the waiter/waitress brings the food and just leaves us alone even when we're waiving our hands to get their attention.

I'd still tip even if the food wasn't that great. I usually tip about 10 - 15%

I tip 15% if the service is PHENOMENAL.
10% if the food is good, but the service was okay.
I always feel obligated to leave tip.
I find it rude if I don't >.<

But if the service is absolutely horrendous, then I don't tip at all.
I remember one time I was eating out with my friends~
We had absolutely terrible service and the waitresses were extremely rude.
And my friend's boyfriend left a penny as a tip (which is very insulting btw).

I really did not like their attitude towards us, but I still don't think they
were bad enough to get a penny x_x I feel horrible about it, haha T.T

When I go out with my friends, we all chip in to pay for the tip.
I remember one time, we ate like only 20 something bucks, and we gave a 10 tip.
haha, but we tend to get pretty loud and messy though...
Otherwise, the usual is just 10-20% too :]

$2 seems like not enough. i usually go for the TAX times 2 (which is the rule of thumb).

So one time i went to an expensive restaurant, the bill came out to be around $85... i just left $20 tip.. it seemed fair.

By the way... don't you guys hate going to restaurants with a group of friends, and ppl think they can slide without paying their tip? I hate that.... (usually girls, but some cheap guys too).
