Ok i've tried to translate the interview about the foreigners in english. But there are a lot of blanks =___=
And there are a lots of approximative translations. Sorry for that.
< Foreign idol members are grateful for having the chance to go to Korea>
Nickhun, Tomo, Haiming, Alexander : "Korean language is difficult"
Nickhun, 2PM : "People looked at me badly when i was switching to chopsticks in the middle of the meal (Note: such as soups). In Korea, we only use chopsticks for rice. But now i'm like a korean person : i love samgyeopsal and daeng jang jigae"
Haiming, A'st1 : "Politeness is really important in Korea. So when i came to Korea, it was awful. Polite speech doesn't exist in China. Polite speech is really difficult"
Recently foreign members of current idol groups have visited Yonhap news. Their names are Nickhun (21yo) the half-thai half-american member, A'st1's japanese member Tomo (22yo) and chinese member Haiming (22), U-kiss Alexander (21yo) from Hong kong.
They all came to Korea between 2005 and 2007, stayed there between 2 or 4 years and speak fluent korean.
꼬셨다", "군대식", "잡종", "짱깨", "왕따" etc...It's impressive to hear such words from non-korean people.
(...) We also asked them what kind of vulgar words they learnt : it seems that it was "That guy's XX"
In 2006 as he was watching a Hallyu festival in Los Angeles, Nickhun was chosen by a casting team from JYP entertainment.
He said : "For my audition, i danced and sang in front of a coffee shop. At that time i didn't know who was Park Jin Young"
In 2005, as he was travelling in Korea, Tomo caught the eye of Lee Hyori's stylist. That's how he was chosen.
Eventhough his father, a japanese boxing champion, was against that decision, he arranged things with the japanese university he was attending to and he got the chance to be a trainee in DSPent that same year.
Born in Harbin, Haiming watched the drama "Full House" on KBS2TV and he thought that Rain was really cool. That's how he became interested in Korea.
In 2006 he entered Chung Ang University in the Theater and Movies department. In order to be like Rain, he took private lessons of dancing. Then Lee Hyori manager invited him to audition.
You noticed that Haiming appeared in Boys over flowers as the hoobae who loves Jihoo-sunbae.
His father is from Hong-Kong, his mother is korean, Alexander attended an american high-school in San Francisco.
In 2007 he visited some relatives in Korea and at the hotel's gym, he caught the attention of the director of the company. They were looking for foreigners to debut as a korean singer.
(...)
The most difficult thing when they learnt korean was the pronunciation of ᄊ and ᄈ.
Tomo : "First, learning polite speech and taking courses really helped me. Seeing Han Ga In in the drama Rookies gave me motivation (?). Then i was able to speak more with the other members.
Like Tomo, Nickhun said : "My korean was still bad when i was invited on SBS's Yashinmanman. I couldn't utter a word in front of all these sunbaes."
"I even said in a informal way 'Did you eat?', 'No way~' to Park jin Young" he laughed.
Alexander helped him by saying : "I was so stressed about speaking politely that i even spoke formally to younger people."
What did you imagine you could do if you came to Korea?
Haiming answered : "After watching Full House, i thought that only rich people lived in Seoul. But actually there were also ordinary houses."
He added jokingly : "Eventhough chinese people are called 짱깨 or 짱꼴 (note: i think these are the equivalent of chinks), yesterday night i ordered 짱깨 (note: a name of a meal)".
Tomo said : "I was interested in the korean culture, so it was easier to accept when people told me 'In Korea, we do it like this'"
He added : "When i came to Korea, there was a problem between the countries : during soccer or baseball competition between Korea and Japan, i even went to the sauna alone".
(...)
Haiming : "(...) I want to go [to the army] but i can't. In Korea, all of my close friends went to the army, so i was bullied (?). At first i didn't understand the system of enlisting for the army."
In Thailand, the enlisting men are chosen by drawing lots.
Nickhun stated that : "The korean enlisting system is similar to the thai one, so it was easier to understand".
Speaking about the army, the conversation suddenly changed to the conflict between North and South Korea.
We asked them what they thought about North Korea having nuclear bombs.
Haiming : "My mother is worrying for me when she hears the korean news. She says 'If anything happens, go to the ambassady.' It seems that people who don't live in Korea are more anxious."
Nickhun : "Eventhough there are some riots in the thai streets, thai people don't think they are that insecure. But people overseas think that Thailand is a dangerous country. Isn't that psycological?"
We talked about the things that they didn't understand in Korea or that they were envious of. Nickhun gave a funny answer.
"In Korea, i don't understand why having a small face is considered beautiful. When i came to Korea and that people talked about small faces, it was the first time i heard that"
Then Haiming said : "When i came to Korea, people asked me : 'Why your face is so big?'" This made everyone laugh.
They also talked about how envious they were about patriotism in Korea.
During the world cup, in front of the former president's building the place was very crowded, they felt that Korea was an undefeatable country.
All of them said : "I feel grateful having the chance to go to Korea. I'll never regret it"
Nickhun said : "I'm interested in acting. I'd like to cross over Asia and go to Hollywood."
Haiming : "I want to act in China so that my mother can see me acting"
Alexander : "I want to return to Hong Kong in glory"
The interview ended and they all tapped on each other's shoulder.
They said loudly : "Let's meet again and drink together. (...)"
