Hollywood Writer's Strike is it over or not? (I'm not from the USA)

I'm not from the USA, but I do follow some American shows through the Internet torrents, like Ugly Betty, Chuck and Grey's Anatomy.
Because of the writers strike the series got on hold and it seems the American tv got reruns instead. So I waited.
Just recently I checked for new torrents and noticed that Ugly Betty had a couple new episodes and Chuck too. But Greys Anatomy not. (I also checked the official websites.)

Anyway, now I'm curious. Is the strike over? I tried to google it, it seems they are still negotiating? Then why are there new episodes from some shows?
I don't really understand, can anyone explain? ph34r.gif

No. sad.gif It's still not over, which totally sucks. Don't think they're negotiating either.
Positive on the first part, not sure on the latter part of what I just said.

There are new episodes, because some of the shows are prerecorded, so they just released those.
Ex: Like before the writers strike, the writers wrote enough for 4 episodes. And then the writers strike happened. So they show the 4 episodes, and then they stop.
Thanks mama_gir1!

As the person above me stated, some episodes of shows were already taped before the strike happened, and they've been slowly airing them over the past couple of months. That, and there are a lot of reality shows, which of course don't need writers.

However, things are looking a lot better now. The producers guild (PGA; the guild the writers are striking against) struck a deal with the directors guild (DGA) and they also struck a deal with Lionsgate. It's hard to explain why it's good, but they're slowly striking deals. It's very possible the whole thing is over with by the time the Oscars air (feb. 24th) cause everyone wants an Oscars telecast. And if it's not, it will definitely be over by the summer, because if the writers are still on strike by then, then the ACTORS go on strike, and the PGA will have to give in.

So, yes it's still going on, but personally I don't expect it to much longer.

i think i read somewhere that they are having informal negotiations right now.. so nothing is set in stone but it's on it's way...
most every show except the reality shows are affected... that's why there are more reality shows on lately..
nbc had clash of the choirs , and there's american gladiator, american idol, dance wars, and so on...

It's been the same season of Chuck since the show started. It hasn't filmed any new episodes past October, they're airing episodes that were recorded before then.

If you mean the Academy awards, there's really no reason for those two people to attend this year. However, almost all major stars and nominees were boycotting the Golden Globes, which is why there was no telecast. I think the strike might be over by the time the Oscars happen, but if not I think the WGA will probably grant them a waiver- allowing the show to go on, all stars and nominees to go, and them to write temporarily for just the show. So it would make no sense for them to boycott, if no one else is. If you mean the Grammys, I haven't been paying attention to that since I don't watch them, but I've heard different things here and there. It'd probably go on as usual but I don't think the WGA will grant them a waiver, so the ceremony will probably suck and hardly anyone will go anyway.

^ Yes it's the Grammys that the likes of Beyonce and JT will not attend if the strike is still going on come Grammy time because Beyonce and JT are part of the SAG and they and the WGA are pretty tight. They wouldn't want to cross any picket lines.

I also heard about the informal negotiations. If we're really lucky the strike might end in a couple weeks. If not, who knows how much longer we will have to wait.
