What's the difference between white rice AND brown rice?
AND, something I don't understand.
People say rice is good for you then some people say rice is full of sugar, fat blah blah all that stuff.

Kinda confused..

QUOTE
Brown rice and white rice have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein. The difference between the two lies in processing and nutritional content. If the outermost layer of a grain of rice (the husk) is removed, the result is brown rice. If the bran layer underneath is removed, the result is white rice. Several vitamins and dietary minerals are lost in this removal and the subsequent polishing process. .

Basically brown rice is healthier, it's like whole meal bread compared to white bread.
And rice is high in carbs, so therefore people limit it in diets?
But if you stop carbs altoghether once you start eating again you gain back a lot of your weight.

brown rice has a much lower glycaemic index [GI] so it takes a lot longer for ur body to break it down, so ur not as hungry and possibly speeds up ur metabolism due to your body processing it. but dont quote me on the last one.

brown rice is harder for your stomach to digest, so older people (who have digesting problems) avoid brown rice.
its healthier for you though. my mother makes white rice with beans to make up for the vitamins/minerals wtver. part D:

ANOTHER QUESTION.

why exactly does rice make you 'fat' ?

Considering Asians are consistently the skinniest people I know, I find it funny to suggest rice makes a person fat.  I suppose eating too much of ANYTHING, even rice, can lead to obesity, but as long as you eat sensibly it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Besides, I've heard rice is the only one of the major grains in the world that doesn't make you fart wink.gif

Does anyone know what brown rice tastes like? Does it taste like white rice or something? Lol. I'm not so sure my family would be so happy switching to brown rice if it tastes bad. tongue.gif

It's chewier, and more fibery. It doesn't get all mushy, and you need to boil it more. I wouldn't say it tastes bad, just that white rice tastes a bit better in certain dishes. I mean, I wouldn't eat brown rice porridge, but in stuff like soup, you hardly taste the difference. Haven't tried brown sticky rice tho, just brown jasmine rice.

The thing with rice is that it's basically just all carbs.
Brown rice is healthier than white rice, but traditionally, white rice is the way to go.
If you want to try it, (it was really weird for me when I tried it the first time) I'd recommend mixing both white and brown rice together.
That's what I'm planning on doing when I get an apartment. c:

Rice is just plain carbs. I wouldn't necessary say it's all made of fats though, as you can see Asians who don't gain weight much. It's probably the dishes they eat. I used to eat brown rice with my family when we sort of had a problem with money. Brown rice is definitely more cheaper in majority of states. My dad gained about 10 pounds or so after we afforded the money to buy white rice.

Of course they taste similar, they're basically the same thing. Brown rice will taste really weird if you just switched, it flies around and has no sticky-ness.

Thank you!! Brown rice porridge doesn't sound too appetizing! Lol. But, I definitely give it a try because I don't mind chewier. ^^
