common
de la soul
public enemy
IF and ONLY IF you are talking about underground as in the style of hip hop that is only appreciated and performed for the love of the lyrics, then...
none of them are underground.
nas was when he came out and unheard of.
common also sort of was whenhe came out, but his style wasn't really considered underground.
de la soul and public enemy were bomb ass hits when they came out, they fit more into the category of old school with ATCQ and such.
nujabes is popular in japan, and has been for quite a while. and his style also isn't underground.
back on topic.

i wish people would give these guys a listen and appreciate hip hop more.
people hate hip hop now, and i can see why, but if they'd just listen to the genuine hip hop.

I don't like underground rap. Much prefer the mainstream (well..90s mainstream). The only thing I probably listen to is underground Wutang members, but that's about it.
