nujabes :]

IF and ONLY IF you are talking about underground as in the style of hip hop that is only appreciated and performed for the love of the lyrics, then...

none of them are underground.
nas was when he came out and unheard of.
common also sort of was whenhe came out, but his style wasn't really considered underground.
de la soul and public enemy were bomb ass hits when they came out, they fit more into the category of old school with ATCQ and such.
nujabes is popular in japan, and has been for quite a while. and his style also isn't underground.

back on topic.
little brother
el-p
mf doom (and other related monikers - zex love x, metal fingers, viktor vaughn, etc)
mr lif
ozomatli
jurassic 5
black eyed peas (b4 fergie came along)
blackstar (mos def & talib kweli)
the sound providers
iswhat?!
d-stroy
the arsonists
typical cats (denizen kane, qwel, qwazaar)
denizen kane
qwel
qwazaar
lyrics born
lateef the truthspeaker
latyrx (lyrics born & lateef)
maker
consequence

add to the list.

i got five on it.

i dont think nas, common, and nujabes are really that underground .. anymore.

well, nujabes & shing02, in that case. ahaha.

mm.. you guys listed most of the ones i wanted to.

buuut i have one i really likeee;

logo.

(:

i wish people would give these guys a listen and appreciate hip hop more.
people hate hip hop now, and i can see why, but if they'd just listen to the genuine hip hop.

i think lupe's doing a good job on that though ;D

Will Smith kicking it with that Big Willie Style.

j/k

I don't like underground rap. Much prefer the mainstream (well..90s mainstream). The only thing I probably listen to is underground Wutang members, but that's about it.

Anyone else going to see Living Legends on their spring tour?

People under the stairs is my favorite! Big ups
and I can be pretty selective haha.

My added list:

Main Source
One Be Lo
Bahamadia
Grand Puba
Jungle brothers
Slum village ( I love dilla, I'm a pretty big dilla head)
Souls of Mischief
Pete Philly and prerequisite
Pete Rock
Gangstarr
The grouch (love this guy too)
Lords of the underground
Jigmastas
Big Daddy Kane
J.J Fad
Vitamin D
Brand Nubian
Nu Shooz
E-Rule
Chubb Rock
Organized konfusion
Freestyle Professors
Leaders of the New school
Mad Kap
Mikey D & The L.A. Posse
Schoolly D
Steady B
Whodini

Thats all I can think of for now. Do you guys know any hiphop-jazz eccentric bands with a focus on spiritualism? Something good natured and afrocentric would be nice.

Immortal Technique, like you posted.

I listened to Dance With Devils by him, and that song is just good lyrically and the beat is good too
