I'm getting a new phone since my current one broke
and i can't decide between the lg shine and the sony ericsson walkman.

it breaks easily and is sometimes extremely slow and the menu is very annoying

I personally don't hear many great things about LG phones besides the fact that they're pretty. Sony Ericsson has always had a good reputation in terms of function. Plus you can get a bigger memory card and use the phone as your mp3 player. I actually ordered the pink one through AT&T because of a rebate. If you use AT&T you might want to consider it. The $50 rebate expires on Valentine's Day

i actually want the LG 8700 Shine (clampshell, not slide)... it's $ 79.99 CANADIAN with a 3 year contract and $129.99 on 2 year, with TELUS... i dont' really understand what "contracts" are... LOL

i hear mixed reviews about it, but i prefer it to the Sony Ericsson phones in how it looks and because I don't need a walkman phone...

So should i get it? I hate that i have to pay for EVERYTHING because my parents don't think its "necessary" of me owning a cellphone.. which is BS

Don't get the W580i.

Breaks extremely easily for me.
I accidently tossed my W580 into my drawer, and apparently, I broke the microphone.
And no, it was a underhand toss, not a overhand pitch.

I just had to make this decision as well... I really wanted the LG shine but my mom was like its too expensive
So i decided to to get the Ericsson instead since it was more affordable. (hopefully it doesn't break like I've been hearing)
I think you should go to cnet and look at the reviews and then decide..

I say get the Sony w580. I recently got it and I love it. Features are awesome, graphics are crystal clear.
I'm not too familiar with LG phones, but Sony Ericsson phones are good.

Get the shine. The joystick is kinda weird, but its a good phone.
The Sony's keys break easially and the screen is madd small.

i have the shine that was released in korea
my friend just got the at&t one yesterday and
if youre planning on getting the at&t one then get the sony
the shine with the joystick looks REALLY cheap
idk to me it looked really cheap and was lighter which added to the cheap feeling
like the lights on the keypad are really fat and ugly
idk about the sony just heard that the keys crack really easily

I used to debate on both phones too when I was getting my phone upgraded. Originally I wanted the Sony Ericsson but then I got the Shine instead (and my mom got the SE).

BUT, I wouldn't get the Sony Ericsson if I were you D: Even thought the sound quality is good and all, but it feels really flimsy and cheap compared to the Shine. My mom's phone broke after a month because she dropped it twice. I dropped my Shine more than twice and it still works like new XD

The only cons for the Shine is that you have to be careful with its screen because of it's vulnerability to scratches

Actually a lot more people complain about LG because of their lack of functionality and alot of the cellphone community rather have Sony phones then LG because of their wide array of functionality. So no , Sony isnt crap.

Because while I was browsing other threads, it said that you can't hear the ringtone well and stuff like that because
I was planning on getting the lg shine but im not sure anymore.
So people with lg shine, would you recommend this to me??

i have se w580i and i love it! i dropped it on cement/rocks when i was running after the bus.. there's a few scratches but you can't notice it.
none of my keys cracked and i got my phone unbranded so i have flash themes and cool gif backgrounds. i love how i can personalize it and if you can't get your phone unbranded you can always use their Music DJ to make your own midi ringtones on your phone that sound really cool! the only problem i have with it is the reception.. it's not very good since the antenna is at the bottom so when it's close to your face your reception is bad. but i paid full price for it and i regret it since some people get it for free but i still love it! the camera is good! i've taken a lot of nice photos with it! but it doesn't have flash.. the camera works great with sunlight. the keys are a bit small so you have to get use to it. i dropped it once and the faceplate came off in the corner where i dropped my phone on cement/rock but it just popped right back in.
