I think there's a reason why the W580i was released AFTER the S500.

The W580i is supposed to be primarily a music phone so it's built with the idea in mind that the person with the phone will be listening to music on it. Thus the partnership with Walkman which is why there's a walkman symbol on there. The S500 isn't a music phone so the priorities are different. However you didn't put the specs for each one, so it's hard to deduce specs-wise which one would be better. ._.

hardware wise they are identical except that the s500 is lacking the pedometer. w580 will be lacking the azn appeal for those that refuse to use "domestic" phones because it is carried by at&t and rogers lol

Well, I have the s500 and its pretty decent. The main point about the s500 is the way it looks though haha.. but I heard people are still having problems with broken buttons (though mines is doing great and its been 3 months) so you should keep that in mind if you're a big texter. But yeah, like the people above said....

It depends what you want in a phone I guess. The specs of these phones are also pretty similar =/ But I have to say... I'm still not tired of how cool and pretty my s500 looks

cuz i was thinkin about which phone to get between these 2 also, the green and black is so purty, s500 has better specs but w580 has the music and sorta cost around the same decisions decisions decisions

If you're really hardcore, get a w580 and a s500 housing from cnn.cn and do a housing swap and get the best of both worlds.

I recently got the w580i and I love it. I saw my friend's S500 (She had the black and green one) and it looked
kinda cheap. ;X Both have similar features except the w580i has the walkman. I think the w580i has more style than the s500. ;P

Before, I had the rizr z3 (which is a lot heavier) so I just have to get use to this phone because it's so light. I have
to be careful not to drop it since it is so light.

Before deciding on whether I should get the w580i or the s500, I looked at some review videos on youtube and that
helped alot. After researching on the two phones, I decided on getting the w580 and got the gray and blue version. Yay. <3
I also got a 2GB memory card for pics and music. An extra memory card is a must since the internal memory is only
around 12MB.

I'm currently using my friend's w850i (I have the k550i but traded with him for aweek), and so far, I'm loving this phone. It has pretty cool features. Like the two button/orbs on both side of the phone changes colors according to your themes and it changes color whenever your phone rings too. The walkman is amazing really good sound quality. And it has a pretty good camera even though its only 2.0 megapixel.

I really liked the S500i and was so close to getting it, but when I heard the button cracks very easily it just turned me off. The phone is way nice though.

get the s500... the features on the two phones, including music playback, are almost identical, and unless you MUST have the walkman logo, the S500 is fine.. imo, the Walkmans are just a scam by Sony to get extra bucks from consumers; theyre all overpriced..

Yeah, s500 looks cool in Black and Green. Hardwarewise s500 and W580 are identical. The only differences are the Walkman features in W580. In the Walkman phones, you can turn on the phone in just the walkman mode that can allow you to use it on the plane. Also the swing control function to do some fancy tricks controlling the Walkman buy moving your phone. And the Pedometer (mm... I am not a car, why do I need that?). And most importantly, the one touch button to jump between phone and Walkman mode with a prettier music interface. Other than that, they are just the same good designed Sony phones. As I do use the phone as my music player, I finally choosen to buy W580 instead of s500 myself.

i'd say the black cause its really nice but
i wouldn't recommend any for you if your a obsess texter ... the keys breaks really easily... my cousin has the phone and she texts alot and mer keys broke within a month...
unless its your baby and you text carefully... but yea... the balck one is nice ^ _ ^
