What is MSG?
Why is it bad? crazy.gif
I don't really understand about it.
How can I protect myself from it.
What not to eat.
What does MSG cause in your body?
I've heard it weakens your metabolism.
What foods do I stay away?

a lot of packaged foods and snacks contain MSG. things like ramens and lots of snack foods, like funyuns or potato chips. just read the labels carefully.

I hope everyone realises that this whole msg case is actually over-exaggerated. Yes, it is BAD for you IF you consume it in large amounts, but that's how it is for almost everything. I'd say it is okay in small quantities but when possible, try to reduce your intake of it (it isn't exactly healthy for you either).

Most restaurants, however, OVERLOAD your food with msg and THAT is very unhealthy. I think your best chances of leading a healthy diet is to really, try not to eat out so much (again, moderation is the key) and eat at home more often. At least when cooking, you know exactly what you put into your food. And this isn't just about the msg factor, but definately for hygiene reasons too.

Food for thought: msg also occurs naturally in soy sauce, mushrooms, and quite a few other foods.

I don't dare tell you too much about msg though, because I don't believe I nor anyone above has an in-depth understanding of it. Even websites are misleading so I suggest doing some proper, reliable research beforehand if you're really concerned with it. A good way with eating less msg though, is to aim at eating as many FRESH produce as possible. Cut down on anything packaged or bottled (and that includes sauces).

It's not. Those egs are extreme cases. For example, I trust that you wouldn't serve it to someone who is sensitive towards it (in which case WOULD lead to some very unsightly reactions).
One obvious result from intaking msg, however, is getting a very dry mouth (so you basically get quite thirsty).

A teaspoon of MSG can kill a dog.

That's what it can do. :x

Monosodium Glutamane...it is some kind of colored flavoring put in foods. It kills rats. If you eat too much, you can have a greater risk for cancer, stroke, etc. all that good stuff.

It's in McDonalds, Soy Sauce, Ramen, Pringles, stuff like that.

monosodium glutamate is basically a type of chemical
thatm akes food taste good.
ramen is based on that. and sometimes in some restaurants
they put it in soft tofu stew thing. and like without msg it wouldn't hvae that same yummy taste.
hot cheetos have it to.
in a way you can call it a form of salt?
it's also in some soysauces

some people in korean call it mat sogeum
which means mat = taste , sogeum = salt
so it's a type of salt that would make food taste better.
it's also put in kimchi, depending on who makesi t

it's best to avoid it. it can cause cancer if you eat too much ofi t.
oh yeah and in tohse korean chinese restaruants
they put it in their food too.

MSG makes me shiver all over, literally.
Stings my tongue and makes my heart race too.

And it doesn't even taste nice. dry.gif

Artificial MSG should get banned.
I hate how it's in so many things.
