But people sometimes have more than one interest or maybe the majors offered are not so interested for them...so maybe it's good to discover what are the subject you are the most comfortable working in...
like for example when I write a history essay I can pass hours without break and still wanna continue...but if I have to write a science essay...it's facebook each 5 minutes and cry cry each hour haha
because sincerely the interest for your major will be strongly related to you grades! and we all want to have good grades...or I think so!
I remember before I didnt know what I wanted to do...until I looked at my high school grades and saw that my continuous highest grades were in history...and all my books at home history related (part. on asia)...after that, didnt have any doubt haha
but I guess it's easy to say this...I mean if you interest is in philosophy is does not mean that you'll get a job with that...so in fact....im not of much help

well you'll have about your first year and maybe the second year to make up your mind
you have general education classes to fulfill so your professors can tell you different kinds of careers in their field of study and etc
right now i'm kinda torn between
child development and social work...well and maybe sociology

and in the end, i chose to major in film based on pure, inexplicable, potentially destructive passion.
you are not the picture on your avatar...
you are not your bloody post count...

-Interest
-How I do in the classes
-Amount of job opportunities
-Salary
-Growth potential in that job.
Right now my major is (well, will be) Management, hopefully with a minor in Pysch, maybe one day I'll turn it into degree on its own. But it's allthose components that are important.

i switched out of business because of my ex.
right now i'm making a decent living as a software engineer. lol
honestly, if i sucked at what i did, i would've switched out again.
i think unless you have a passion, you just go with something you can do and stick with it.
my parents thought i was gonna fail in life because i didnt get into any UC's
they thought i would be jobless because i wasn't aiming to become a doctor, lawyer or some other high level profession that requires a graduate degree
now they brag about how well i'm doing to their friends
about how much i enjoyed college life at a school not designated with a 'UC' in front of it [USC]
TAKE THAT MOM AND DAD!!! lol
whew... this turned into a rant more than a reply

HECK YES.
anyway. mine was purely on interest. then i took into consideration salary and whatnot. :) hence, i'm a double-major in asian languages and lit + graphic design since i enjoy both as a hobby and i think it'd be mucho interesting. plus, i have this like...crazy notion of where i want to work...which is Newtype. lol. translate japanese articles + layout design and whatnot. zomg...i'm a weirdo, i know. :D or just anything along the lines...
and uhm, i decided on my major after my english teacher in senior year forced us to write about which college we wanted to go to or what we wanted to do in life. and this paper was like...ultra-formal and serious and required tons of research. :) if it weren't for that paper, i wouldn't know which major or college i'd want to attend. so yeah, definitely research. mix and match -- find majors that = your interests. ^^

a year later i realised maybe i should. after all, i've always wanted to work in hospitals, wanted to work in health/science field, and i want to help people medically~
and because there's a shortage, i figured that maybe i should do it.
and within about five years, or by the time i graduate, there would be a pay rise for nurses. so yaaaah. ^^

I went to the career center a lot? HAHA. XD Basically I forced all the questions and concerns I had to them and they helped me narrow down my interests. Then, I took some classes that I was interested in and then BAM, I loved it! I still have some time before I decide to stick with this major, but I'm pretty sure I'm going too.
I did go to several "Picking your major" and "How to choose a major" and other workshops. They helped me narrow it down, but the decision is ultimately up to you and what interests you most.
Note: My friends and family made a lot of suggestions, but NONE of them would've expected that I'd pick this major. Kind of shows that even the closest people to you may not be the best advice givers on this particular subject. :x

Well, I'm tyring to get a double major.... anthropology and minor in Photography too... but it seems complex.
I pick my major by interested and what I wanted to do later in life...
Besides I never fail a history class. LOL! ^^
if you don't know go to careerpath.com
I just went there recently for the first time and I took the quiz...
hahahah... it listed historian after my test. BINGO! I'm in the right direction.
