Bánh xèo are Vietnamese crepe-type pancakes made out of rice flour and turmeric powder and coconut milk, and are pan-fried and stuffed with slivers of fatty pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts. Served wrapped with lettuce leaves and stuffed with mint leaves and other herbs, and dipped in nước mắm (Vietnamese fish sauce)

isn't it kinda bland & tasteless without nước mắm? o_0

i like mine crunchy. haha. I take out the stuffing (shrimp, pork, bean sprouts) when I eat it.

These fill you up fast. What do you guys put in your sauce, just plain nuoc mam?

Plain nuoc mam is too salty for me, I always fill mine with tons of chili, water, lemon, and sugar.

I actually don't like it either when it's used as a dipping sauce. Blech.
My mom actually serves ours with the peanut sauce you get with spring rolls. Much better imo. Oh and thank GOODNESS my mom doesn't stuff ours with mint. >_< I hate the bitterness. Usually it's just lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumbers, mushrooms, green onions, and regular onions as far as the veggies go.
