i say psp, maybe i'm biased because i just bought a psp (although i don't use it as my mp3 player when i'm out).

i'm assuming that you're refering to psp slim.

the psp has 1 huge downside as an mp3 player, its just too damn big for me to wana carry around 24/7.

but if you buy the psp you basically have a portable media center.. games/music/movies.

i would suggest not getting the psp, especially since you said you wont use it for games. sony is pretty limited with their music/video formats and you'll get more space with the zen (it supports wma, mp3, aac, divx too i believe?). like shim shim hae mentioned, the psp is quite big. my friend uses it as a mp3 player..and its bigger than even my ipod touch crazy.gif

id put it like this: you dont buy a cellphone just for the built-in calculator, do you?? sure the psp can do other things besides play games..but it isnt exactly suited for other roles.

My 2 cents...

Buy a mp3 player(any model) if you mainly use it for songs, because the PSP(even the Slim) is quite bulky for a music player IMHO.

Buy a PSP if you watch videos. The PSP screen is quite large than the NDS and the iPod.

I have a psp, and a mp3.
Um. The thing is if you do not intend to use the psp for gaming and watching videos get the mp3 instead.
I hardly use mine for storing music. I just use my mp3. It's so big to carry around and listen too as well.

the PSP does have a nice screen, but because you wont be needing it for gaming, the screen doesnt quite make up for that huge bulk you'll be carrying around..

a LOT of mp3 players out there have great screens, esp the ones capable of video (creative has one, not the zen though)
and its not as bulky, so it actually fit in your pocket or something

there's not really much point in buying a psp if ur just going to use it for music. its just big without reason if u dont use it for games or movies.

i'd get the psp, since you can hack it and stuff for games
it just makes it fun to take out, so when i'm like bored and waiting for class or something i can just whip it out haha.

did u wash your ipod on purpose? lol jk.

I'd get a PSP, and later buy a cellphone with MP3 capabilities.

I would honestly say the PSP because I love the heck out of it and I do use mine as an mp3 player so it's perfect! It also fits nicely in my front pockets since I wear sorta baggy/loose pants.

But since you're saying that the Zen 8gb costs the same as the PSP, I'd go with the Zen. Sure the PSP has a nice screen and all but it only initially comes with a 1gb stick...now...PSPs + 1gb stick + Big Screen + and other features versus Zen + 8gb of space for the same price...

I wouldn't get a PSP because it can't read any language other than English on the mp3 player...

i LOVE my bf's psp <3 if you only want one just to play songs, i suggest to get a normal mp3 player. the psp will be pretty big to carry around.

Correction. It CAN read foreign languages.

It can also read Korean and Simplified/Traditional Chinese.

^Apparently it can. But I still wouldn't use a PSP as an mp3 player because
1. it's too big
2. the memory stick isn't enough to hold all my songs and games
3. the mp3 player works but it has the most minimal functions while an mp3 player would have a lot of good functions like playlists, fm radio, voice recording, etc etc
4. it can't read any music files other than mp3 (like wma, ogg, asf, etc)

Not sure about ogg and asf but it can definitely read wma and at3 files.

But yeah...as an ideal mp3 player, the psp isn't the best....but for playlist..or for what it's worth..you can simply place the songs in subfolders. There's also now a thing called internet radio. Not quite like FM radio but just shoutcasts which is kinda cool. It's all available on the higher firmwares.

okay thanks for all the feedback.... i have bought a psp now; partly because there are delivery problems with the zen, and partly because of the screen (:.... one last question... is it possible to replace the faceplates and the backplates on the PSP? Because ive already got the back really really scratched..
