i'm assuming that you're refering to psp slim.
the psp has 1 huge downside as an mp3 player, its just too damn big for me to wana carry around 24/7.
but if you buy the psp you basically have a portable media center.. games/music/movies.

id put it like this: you dont buy a cellphone just for the built-in calculator, do you?? sure the psp can do other things besides play games..but it isnt exactly suited for other roles.

Buy a mp3 player(any model) if you mainly use it for songs, because the PSP(even the Slim) is quite bulky for a music player IMHO.
Buy a PSP if you watch videos. The PSP screen is quite large than the NDS and the iPod.

a LOT of mp3 players out there have great screens, esp the ones capable of video (creative has one, not the zen though)
and its not as bulky, so it actually fit in your pocket or something

But since you're saying that the Zen 8gb costs the same as the PSP, I'd go with the Zen. Sure the PSP has a nice screen and all but it only initially comes with a 1gb stick...now...PSPs + 1gb stick + Big Screen + and other features versus Zen + 8gb of space for the same price...

Correction. It CAN read foreign languages.

It can also read Korean and Simplified/Traditional Chinese.

1. it's too big
2. the memory stick isn't enough to hold all my songs and games
3. the mp3 player works but it has the most minimal functions while an mp3 player would have a lot of good functions like playlists, fm radio, voice recording, etc etc
4. it can't read any music files other than mp3 (like wma, ogg, asf, etc)

Not sure about ogg and asf but it can definitely read wma and at3 files.
But yeah...as an ideal mp3 player, the psp isn't the best....but for playlist..or for what it's worth..you can simply place the songs in subfolders. There's also now a thing called internet radio. Not quite like FM radio but just shoutcasts which is kinda cool. It's all available on the higher firmwares.
