ok so recently Exreme Fitness called me and told me that I had "won" 3 months free at their gym after I randomly entered their contest at a nutrition store. well I was pretty excited cause I've been wanting to start working out for some time now. however, in order to claim it, I would have to stay there for year for $66/month. I'm not too fond of contract deals..and I know Etreme Fitness is like known for their excessive promotions..I don't want to get suckered in and then find that there's better deals out there!

opinions anyone?
It's hard to wait around for something that you know might never happen
but it's even harder to give up especially when it's everything you ever
wanted.

You aren´t winning anything if you have to pay 66$ a month. I would count their "offer" as a discount of sorts... but definitely not free if they force you to stay there for a year. And even if you wanted to quit, you would still have to pay. if you´ve been to the gym already and like it, I say go ahead and sign up, but only if you know you´ll spend the year. Otherwise it´s a waste of money :X

if you shop around, you could easily find rates at 30~40/month
no deal
plus, i bet they kill you on initiation and processing fees

Seems kinda odd... Everyone seems to win @ those win free gym memberships. I've personally won as well. It may be just a marketing ploy for them to get leads to people who are interested in gym memberships.

But Pricing as far as I recall from my gym memberships

24 Hr fitness is around 44 all club unlimited access (month to mont)
Spectrum Club is around 42 one club unlimited access (month to month)
Bally's is around 30 one club unlimited access (month to month)

nooo way. i paid abouyt $35/month for 24hr fitness. then i went to bally and they were gonna offer me first month free and only $35/month for another year if i enjoyed my first month. the first free month was no strings attached whatsoever. if i didnt like it then i just walk away, and i had no contract obligations to them.

holy $66/mth is way overpriced. Fitness World is at most 40bux a mth. I used to work there and those boxes where you enter to "win" a membership are fake. CatGoesMeow is exactly right. Everyone wins. They just want to get you in so they can have one of their guides who show you around try to give you offers and make you join.

I think you should shop around, there are better deals out there. I used to have a gym membership for around 30 dollars a month with no initiation fee...

That's way too much. I pay $24/year at 24 hour fitness (but had to pay $600 upfront for 3 years). My friend pays $22/month. This is for the all club membership.

^ same here, it's like paying $17/month for the first 3 years, and then $2/month for every year after. PLUS, it's nationwide so you can always go to any other location.

That's a lot of money for a monthly fee. I say don't do it. Businesses like that work at becoming masters at "scamming" people with contests and sales and things like that.

its a bit difficult to judge a gym without listing all of the amenities that it offers. although i think 66/month is a bit on the expensive side, there are some gyms out there, similarly priced, that can justify this amount.

there's a gym in my area that has all the normal gym equipment plus a rock wall and water slide and membership starts at 60/month. considering that most gyms cost about 30/month and the rock climbing center here costs 30-40/month, i'd say its a good deal.

check out multiple gyms and see what they offer. then ask yourself if you are going to take advantage of all the available amenities and then select the gym that caters to your needs at the best price point.

^as yungstar mentioned, it's hard to visualize what the gym looks like and what they provide if you...dont provide a description.

do they have a pool? sauna? air conditioning? do they spend money on flat screen tvs and are their machines new and in good condition? is there plenty of staff available for help? is there anything that indicates that this gym is a "nice" gym to go to? if it is, i wouldnt mind paying 66 a month.

I got to Equinox.
It's really nice, clean & they have alot of classes for free (Yoga, Pilates, Cycling, Kickboxing, etc). They have a pool too! Well..atleast the one I go to.

Uhm, if you join for a year, then it's 594$ (including the three free months)
That's not that bad, acutally.

i joined bally and i pay $27/month but thats partly cuz i joined with my sister and we got a family package thingy and we split the cost..i think $66/month is too a ripoff for a gym membership..u could def. find a better deal somewhere else happy.gif
