This lady thinks driving 15k without a oil change is good since she has done the same to all her previous cars. I wonder how many previous cars shes had?

Oh now the story makes more sense!

Its normal for a girl to not change her oil. My girl is way overdue on her Honda Accord and it sounds like a tractor right now.

Wheres your man at? he should be taking care of that stuff for you!!

I like how every one starts bashing the chick, but she responds with smileys.

I just see a chick responding with more mechanical ignorance.

I'll leave her alone. Ignorance gets a person nowhere.

Wouldn't be suprised how long some cars will last with 15000mi oil change intervals. I see a lot of people who are like that lady due to that they don't know when to change their oil

It's stated in BMW manuals that regular oil change intervals should be at 15k but most bmw drivers tend to change at about 7.5k

But this was break in period. Where the engine is still running rough with a lot of metal scraps still getting smoothed.

If it was synthetic oil, it could last to 15,000, but that is extremely unlikely. Some of the factors are engine temperature (which can cause oil to break down faster and/or sludge), oil type (synthetic would be more resistive to the heat and sludging), and a few others. I'm almost certain the oil filter is already gone into bypass mode, meaning the filter is too crudded up to filter and has opened the 'emergency' valve to allow oil just to flow through.

In response to the title, this is what I think idiots are: People who don't know how to drive fury.gif . I'm still fighting the insurance company over the loss of my car.

Seriously, people need to learn how to drive and not cause a four car accident (which i'm still pissed about).

While we're on the topic of changing oil, can I ask a question? On my Acura TSX, there's an oil meter thing that shows in percents (starts from 100%, goes down over time in 5% differences). On the manual it said to change the oil at 20% and mine was at 15% so I flipped out and took it to the dealership for an oil change. The man who was working actually got mad at me and told me I brought it in too EARLY - I shouldn't bring it until it's down to 10% or something... So was it really bad that I got the oil changed too early? +_+;; That was my first oil change too... I don't drive that much so the mileage is still below 7,000 even though I've had the car for 9 months now...

the only reason why manufactures are going to longer oil changes is to protect the catalytic converter. frequent oil changes damages the cat, and since the warranty on all cats is 8 years or 80,000 miles. so less frequent oil changes will help the cats get past that period at the price of reduced engine life. your engine will still make it past 80,000 miles but its not going to last as long as it could if you gave it more frequent oil changes. frankly i dont see why people dont want to change their oil more frequently, it doesnt take long and its cheap insurance to make sure your engine stays healthy.

fwiw though the oil itself doesnt break down, its the additives in the oil that break down. also your oil will be full of contaminants if you dont change it.

I know what you're talking about since I drive a 05 TL and have the same oil % indicator.
IMO it was a good thing you took it in when you did. Especially since it was your first oil change, it's good to get it done early to remove the metal shavings at the start.

It's up to you. You can go by the indicator or not. He should not be getting mad at you.
At the Acura dealership I go to, the service guy said the same thing to me and I just calmly told him that I was aware of the system but I prefer to change mine every 3k miles. No problems

I don't have any catalytic converters. I'm trying to re-live the baby-boom generation.

Read your manual, at least 6 times lol.

My god, even synthetic can't last 15k miles. She obviously doesn't know anything about 'maintenance'. I dont understand how some women can't put two and two together. I mean you shave your armpits and go to yoga class once in a while to 'maintenance' your body.... why wouldn't you think your CAR needs maintenance? Poor car, if I was the dealership I would have just handed back her keys and said "sorry".

^But I did read my manual numerous times (see in my post where I said "in my manual"?)... And what he said directly conflicted with what the manual said, so I didn't really know what to do or say sleep.gif
