The T-Mobile Wing (I'm sure you can get it unlocked to use for Cingular), Blackberry Curve, Sidekicks... those are good texting phones.

for cingular i would recommend the pantech duo or the blackjack 2. both of these have the qwerty keyboard and make it easier to text. or if you'd like to go traditional with t9, i'd say sony ericsson w580 or LG's shine are pretty darn nice too. :]

Well I have a friend who has the blackjack and she texts a lot with it.
Then you have the tilt, not sure about that.
I think there is also a pantech duo.
Blackberrys are good too.

Tell you friend to look at the smart phones. Phones with QWERTY keyboard are the best for texting, but the feel depends on the user. The Sidekick though, is the best texting phone out there so far.

Here's the phone I just bought:

The Samsung double flip. I love it because it looks like a regular phone (kinda looks like a Motorola RAZR) but you can also flip it sideways. It's not as bulky as the sidekick or as ugly as blackberries. It has some pretty decent features too (bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, msn, mp3 player)
