But I do have something to say about your situations. If you're just having a conversation and some random person comes up and gives you trouble, "This is America" or whatever, they're wrong. If they're deliberately being troublesome,t hen they're wrong. But, if you're in a group and you start speaking your native language and not everyone understands, then even if it's not your intention to exclude anyone, that's what's happening, and it's pretty rude. So try to not get into that situation ^__^
And teachers shouldn't be telling you off for speaking in a specific language, unless:
-it's a language class, so you should be speaking English/French/Japanese/etc
-you're supposed to be doing something, not talking at all
^but those should apply to everyone, no matter which language, so the teacher should be telling off everyone in the class who's talking- if it's just you and your language, then it's discrimination.
What else?
If a person doesn't understand what you're saying, then of course she/he won't be able to tell that you're not talking about him. It does make people uncomfortable~ I'd say that they're less likely to be jealous and more just frustrated that you're not letting them in on what you're saying. It's not a problem over your native language, but over the fact that you're speaking, maybe deliberately and maybe not, in a language that they don't understand.
I'm not sure exactly what position I'm trying to take here, but just keep in mind that you need to be considerate ^__^

i actually find it annoying when people speak other languages...
why?
you feel excluded....and ignored....even when your a total stranger...how are you supposed to introduce yourself?
what if you wanna get to know them?...
you dont want to introduce yourself when they have no english cause well...how the hell would you communicate
you have no idea what they're talkign about
most of those people hardly try and learn english and its kidna irritatign when you try to talk to them
especially in class...i dont see why the teacher shhouldnt tell you to stop talking in another language...
if i was a boss...and all my employees were talking in some language .....i would kinda be fustrated....wouldnt you?
i hate it when i'm sitting in a group and they all start chatting in canto or something....
i'm just like O.O....and then they start laughing and its just like T _ T
and you dont know if they're talking about you or not...
ok your probably not...
but i know my friends bag people out in canto behind the ausseis back...
espeacially teachers and stuff

Then I'm the person who receives a "wth" look.
Okay, I'm getting myself confused.
Man, that spelled out sounds so harsh.. Unless they're at like, Chinatown or somethin'.

Normally I would just reply, "Oh, I'm sorry you can't understand" then walk away.
But I think the more annoying part is where they know like 3 words of your language and try to make a whole conversation out of those 3 words.

She's like "THIS IS AMERICA!" And I remember crying over it because it felt like I wasn't allowed to communicate with my language I'm comfortable in.
I don't mind people speaking their own language, just when there's people who don't understand and such, I try to not speak it.
Well I don't know anyone in my school who speaks my language so I just simply don't.
I just don't like when Spanish speakers look and start laughing in Spanish...its like, don't stare this way when you're speaking.

"why can't you also shut the f*** up too?"
We're coming from the underground, we're not mainstream.
We do what we wanna do.
If that's only possible in the underground then we'd like the underground to be our home. It's good like that." -Kaoru
