The movie stars Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm "Tight Pants" Reynolds, Gina Torres as Zoe, Alan Tudyk as Wash, Summer Glau as River, and so on and so on.
It's based on a cancelled TV series Firefly that was on Fox during, I believe, 2002. It was cancelled for reasons purely Fox's fault (I refuse to place any blame on anyone else
), but a growing fanbase was able to bring it back to the silver screen through outstanding DVD sales, which convinced Universal Studios to get Joss Whedon to develop a film project out of Firefly.The film debuted at number 2 at the box office (behind Flightplan) and is currently at 80% on RottenTomatoes.com, which is really good.
This movie needs to gross $80 million worldwide in order for Universal to see it profitable to make two more sequels (for which all of the actors, minus Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass, are signed on for).
So make sure you go watch the movie this weekend or sometime soon! Take a friend or two or five! Watch it again if you liked it the first time!
