i've always wanted to dye my hair or atleast perm it semi-wavy, but i have very smooth, silky straight hair thats very healthy, and i've heard stories that after just perming or dying hair once, some ppl's hair just never came out the same again. and im reeeallly scared that might happen unsure.gif has that happened to anyone??

It really depends on the type of hair you have. If it's already pretty weak, it can lead to breakage.

virgin hair is always the nicest. unless you have fuzzy hair.

Perms on virgin hair looks the best. that's speaking from experience sweatingbullets.gif

I don't think perming will affect your hair roots. most prob you won't be perming from roots anyway.

not sure about dyeing, but it shouldn't be the case. because you're not doing anything to your roots too., shouldn't affect hair that grows out in the future.

Please just do one or the other. Do not Color your hair and then perm it a couple weeks later. You should perm your hair first THEN color it a couple months later. PLEASE DO NOT MIX CHEMICALS. Give it time! I made that mistake last year, i colored my hair then permed it 3 weeks later unsure.gif My hair fell out until all my color/damaged hair was gone. I had to wear extensions for a year!! My hair is back to it's normal length now but trust me you don't want to put
all that stress on your hair and go through what i went through. I had to pay more $ every month to get new extensions in tears.gif It's all good now! But i hope you take my advice blush.gif

perming wll damage ur hair no matter how healthy it is because they're applying a lot of heat onto it.
it makes ur hair pretty dry so u have to take extra care of it after u perm
dying won't damage it as much..unless u dye your hair every other day

i find that dying my hair damages it more than perming. i permed my hair for the first time a few months ago and i felt the need to use a deep conditioner on top of my regular conditioner and i feel like i've been losing more hair than before. however the new hair that's growing out seems to be nice and healthy

I've gotten a perm a couple of times and my hair has always gone back to how it always was (well, over a period of time since my perms die out within a month or two). blink.gif This was over the past 10 years too, lol, I've been getting perms for a long time. biggrin.gif

I don't see a problem with semi-wavy perms though. If you're getting like ... ajumma or poodle perm, then maybe I could see someone's hair being changed, but for something not that tight?

U should go to a hair salon and get a consultation done. Everyones hair is different so its best if u go to a stylist and let them have a look at ur hair texture, density, porosity etc. If u have thick hair and alot of it at the same time then you may not get those soft waves that u want. I'm in my final year of doing hair so i know abit about it...hope that helped! As for colour...whatever u do just dont bleach it! It will really dry out ur hair because the colour lift will be too strong that it will damage the cuticle of ur hair.
I dont need your attitude...I have my own

ive dyed my hair alot of times nothing really just do what it says and condition it to keep it smooth and soft because if you dont your hair will look dead and dry...but then again it depends on your hair.
if it's your first time you should get it done by someone who knows what there doing.

I no longer give out my facebook but you can hit me up on my tumblr.

I've dyed my hair many times, and it was still silky smooth, but after I got my perm my hair ended up feeling like straw. dry.gif
I totally regret it '~'

the degree of damage really depends on the person - how sensitive their hair is - and the type of hair they have.
i find dying more damaging then perming. but some say otherwise.
if you already have really bad frizzy, curly hair; i dont think perming is the way to go.

Same. Getting a perm was fun at first but then it totally wrecked it. Not only did it feel dry, but it got tangled ALL THE TIME. When I had just long, straight, dyed hair, my hair never had that problem. But long, permed hair? Rat's nest. I'm never getting a perm ever again, and I cut the perm completely out about a month ago. Even my bleached hair now feels better than my permed hair.

i think so
i had really healthy hair.
then when i dyed it twice some of it started frizzing. >.<
not obvious but still not good to have damaged hair.
even cutting doesnt help much because it pretty much grows on frizzy.

I am seventeen years old. I've been dying it with perm colors since I was 15.

I stopped a few months ago, because I started to lose hair : / So, once or twice is ok. However if you continue to the stage where your hair starts to fall off, cut it short and let it grow back out without dying it and you will be fine again.

It's pretty demaging but honestly I dyed my hair 5 times within 4 months.
I think my hair is quite demaged now, but I keep my hair smooth and shiny by using good conditioner and so on.
Ahora vamos por todo
y todos vamos por ellos

i dyed my hair a couple of times and once i dyed my hair at home. my hair became so rough and dried. This year i got a perm and my hair became softer, but now it's the same as before. my point is don't dye your hair, it causes so many damages which is no good
