So recently, the state issued a ton of pink slips to teachers across my district.
The thing is, because my school is relatively new, so are the teachers. Because pink slips were issued to teachers based off of seniority, 80% of the teachers that were cut came from my school, which equates to at least 41% of our school staff, and essentially destroys ROTC, virtually all art classes, etc. Crazy right? Some of the most qualified teachers are being fired just because they haven't been teaching for as long. :|

[Pink Slips = being let off]

Anyways, how has mister Arnold Schwartfiajlfjsdafl [can't spell his name to save my life XD] 's decision to decrease our already super low educational funds affected you? O: [If you live in California, that is. I highly doubt this would affect someone living in Alaska.]

I've talked about this with my teacher recently.. I heard that 1/3 of Bay Area teachers got pink slips. That's a LOT of teachers. At my school, there are some really good new-ish (not all are THAT new) teachers who got the pink slips.. and I think there was a protest at the city hall in my city just this Tuesday.

If so many get laid off, I think it will really affect my school because my school isn't all that big and the teachers really support the students and most teach well..

who cares about obesity, bring back the vending machines. they were revenue makers for schools. its been a while since i've been out of high school but i liked gray davis other than his stupid handling of ENRON.

all i see Arnold do is go to stupid events like NBA basketball games.

sucks..
and to think of all those future teachers/currently interning at school...
i'm considering being a teacher..but i think i might have to move to another state if i do..if this continues T_T..

Koko: Yeah seriously. People go out and buy their own sodas and crap anyways, so banning soda machines really isn't doing anything. :/

silentxtears: Hopefully if enough people dissent, we can fix this mess. D:

Arnold's decision will in fact probably end up affecting Mississippi. Mississippi gets some of the money for
education through taxes from California and New York (the big states). If they're having troubles, so will we. Not
that most kids would notice, because the education here is decent, but far behind what it should be.

Yeah, after the budget cuts California is going to be ranked 50th for education based on how much they spend on each student. My teacher said that next year my school is taking out our career center, the library, some transportation, advisers, etc. It's crazy stupid... we need those things. Well not the advisers; a lot of students are happy to see some of them go. But yeah, the new teachers are getting pink slips. I think it should be the other way around though... because a lot of teachers at my school are actually able to retire already. The new teaches are the ones who need a job and will lead America's "future generation" haha. It just feels really depressing. I'm glad I'm graduating this year but I feel horrible for the younger students.. and I want to become a teacher too. >.<;; It's sad too because California was flourishing a few years back... but then after we get all that money we decided to spend everything. Sigh, why did we pick Arnold? sleep.gif

Time to move out of California! ph34r.gif I don't know about other people, but I wouldn't really want my kids educated here. Despite how great of a reputation our UCs have.

they would post jobs and let you type papers and stuff

well after this
i hope this makes california vote more often and choose the right people
especially when CA is SUCH a big state alot of people are affected...really sucks ass!! mellow.gif

Over here in San Gabriel, it isn't as traumatizing since we're ghetto enough.
This is the first year we have to pay for parking at school, $30 for the whole year. They're probably going to cut some of the AP classes since not a lot of students take them. We can't have field trips anymore because they're not paying for substitute teachers. If the teacher is out, even for sick days, they have to pay for their own substitutes [but the teachers cheat the system by having other teachers with free periods teach]. Our Grad trip was going to be held at school, but the seniors fought back and ended up with the traditional Disneyland.
And I wonder how much worse it can get next year. I'm glad it's my last year here...

One of our older teachers was ranting about how California has the 7th largest economy in the world. Like just California. But how we spend like 33,000 on each prisoner and yet we only invest like$33 dollars in our students.

o.o blah. arnold is stupid either way

and the budget cut is also affecting admissions to UCs and CSUs... so if some ppl with good enough stats still didn't get into some colleges, thats why.

so many budget cuts in my city too.
i live in the kern county district in california.
our school is fairly new, well we haven't reached out 10 years of school yet
next year though.. however, so many qualitified teachers were given pink slips this year.
which is upsetting the whole school for many of our history teachers are being laid off.
however, the teachers in our county are lucky for there will be 2 new high schools opening by the fall of next year.
in prior to a new school opening the year before. -___-;
so the teachers who use to teach are being sent.
such classes as dance, woodshop, some history teachers were cut.
from my school itself 13 teachers were given the pink slip
and our total staff is more than 100. T____T it's really sad to see these teachers go, for they are the ones that are qualified teacher who can actually teach. T___T;; hew i never like that arnold shwahfakjdfhlakj whatever his name is.

never did understand why people voted him.
-__-; arnold is stupid. last year our school won the california fitness thing where all high schools in california were to participate in the fitness thing and whoever has the most students working out ( we had to fill out all these chart thingy) we would get an arcade built in our school.
so we won, we have an arcade in our school ddr machines, ski thing and others stuff. but many students are complaining for they should have just given our school the money, then they wouldn't have to cut any teachers from our school T__T;

our high school principal is doing all he can do to save some of the classes from being gone forever to our high school distric board.
dance for example is getting cut, the teacher was the one that brought dance to our school 8 years ago.
during our spring recital we had tv stations come and record us after the show and interviewed us about what we thought of the budget cuts.

when freshmen our school had about more then 3,260 students attending. when the new school opened the year before we lost many, our classrooms were less crowded :] im a junior now our total population of our school is almost 2000. my history class is jam packed, we have about 4 different us history teacher with all about 5 periods each of the class. and history is jam packed yet they are cutting our teachers from the history department.

It is insane. I am very concerned for the AP classes because my favorite World history AP teacher is getting less amount of students signing up each year and he may be only down to one class and that means he would most likely get cut.

My English teacher told our class she spends at least a couple thousand out of HER OWN pocket just for our AP class. There is major paper cut and lack of supplies and we have a lot of great programs at our school and it is horrible to see things cut. I am not sure if our district is going to be greatly impacted because we are like the best district in our county but the budget cut is so bad it is going to effect us.

and for one thing. The state college tution for California went considerably up to like what 20,000? And that means UC tutions are going to RISE also. And financial aid in college is being CUT. People have to get student loans with like 15% INTEREST RATES because that is the only thing they can turn to. And people are going to be paying their loans for the next 30 YEARS! INFLATION + LOAN = DEBT until they turn like 50!!! It is crazy.
