i applied to UC Davis, but unfortunately i got rejected. I really want to go to UCD so im planning to do the appeal, but i dont know how to write it so that they would reconsider me and accept me. im planning to write about dance and how im not giving up on it even though im not planning have a career on it.

other information:
in my personal statement i wrote about my family and how they got me to like science, which made me want to go into microbiology. in the other prompt i wrote about my leadership class and what we do in that class.
my SAT score was 1330
my average gpa unweighted is 3.67

please give me any advice on how to write my appeal. UCD is my dream school and i really want to go there.

Personally, I would not write about dance as it doesn't really have any compelling factor for chaning their decision. (though you could metion it.. i guess)

I urge that write about how the campus will benefit you and how you would benefit the campus in a mutual manner.

On a side note, your essay might have hinted(though might not be true) that it is your family that wants you to get into the science field and that it is not your personal desire to get into that field. I don't know what your essay was like, but if that is the case, maybe you could also clear that up in your appeal?

Good luck!

You need to write more than the reason why you deserve to go there and why it would benefit you. What Davis is look for, is new information about you that can be added to your application, not just the reason why you should go. Every single person who appeals is going to believe that they have a good reason why they deserve to go. UC Davis is extremely hard to get into this year; I have friends with 4.0 GPAs who didn't get in. You need to expand on one of the points in the check list that you pick, as well as why you think you deserve to go there, that stuff.

^^ yep, agree with Chinese tears smile.gif
you have to present them with new information, not just why you want to go or how it would benefit you

What is the reason why you're appealing? If you don't have any reason, and you just want to go there because it's your dream school then don't even bother appealing; you're not going to get in. As harsh as that sounds, it's true. Davis appeals less than 100 students per year. A lot of people want to go to Davis, and yeah, a lot of them don't get in. We can't all go to our dream schools. If you really want to go there, the best thing you can do is go to a community college and transfer later. That's way easier than appealing and even easier than trying to get in as a freshman.

The new information has to be only if you won some award, did some significant thing like community service, or you have some type of hardship in your life that might have affected how well you did in school or on your application. Dance isn't going to work because you've already been dancing and they already know that right? It's only a small thing in the end. Something that might have played a big part in your rejection is your SAT score and your involvement. The average score is probably around 1800 or higher. And if you weren't very involved and an all-arounder... well, that seemed to play a big factor in who got in this year. Shrug, competition has been super tough the past three years or so because Davis accepted too many students a few years back so they're making up for it by accepting less students now.

^ -.- it is not hard to appeal.

It does not hurt to try. The worst thing that can happen is that they don't accept your appeal (I think they even give you a reason for not accepting you, which can be potentially benefiting for your future applications) Of course if you do not have "new" information, include it! But if you do not, i still encourage you to use my advice. For any reason: If they do not reach their acceptance quota, if a different reviewer feels you should get in, there is always a chance you can still get in. Submit your appeal and do not regret it in the future!

what kind of information do people usually put in appeals? And since sometimes you need letters of rec for appeals, are you supposed to specifically ask your teacher to write about certain things about you or something? haha sweatingbullets.gif

guys....what you write on an appeal should be more personal than anything *edit* personal as in non-generic? idk how to explain lol
this isn't just a college essay and asking someone "what should i write" isnt going to help you much because that's for you to decide.
i agree completely with chinese tears...don't just blab on about how much you like the school and really wish you could go because that's just like something you could have put the first time around and, to some extent, were probably asked to write about it. i don't think that will get you very far, but that's just my opinion

In my opinion the appeal should be much more objective than subjective.
Because.. they're looking for NEW information.. like if your robotics team took first place last month
Or stuff like that (that was the example my counselor used?)
So while personal things such as why you want to go and what it means to you, etc..
Think of something that really shows your improvement.
I don't know how to explain it right though, sorry~

i was told that you should write about how you improved-- if you did good last semester you should def write about that.

like everyone said, i wouldn't recommend writing about dance since it's not related to your intended major.

I do think is that hard to appeal. sleep.gif A lot of people want to appeal just because of the reason they really want to go there; it doesn't mean they qualify. And most people don't get accepted through appeals. It's one thing to appeal, it's another thing for your appeal to get your appeal accepted. The stats are incredibly low.

I don't know if our opinion of "personal" is the same, but I think this is true too. I've heard of people who were really persistent and got in. This guy didn't get his appeal accepted and he wrote them another letter and then he got in, haha. It might because they realized he really seriously wanted it or he provided even more information, I don't know. I think your sincerity and want to go to that school really makes a difference. This really can't be a "tell me what to put so I have a better chance of getting in" thing.

I appealed to UCSC and I was wondering if my chances will be better since the school is less popular than others as UCD or UCSD. My gpa and SAT scores were pretty much the same as the ones of my friend who got in. For my appeal I wrote about how I recieved a merit for an advanced piano test and it was relevent b/c my major will be music. I also wrote about how my gpa went up for the fall semester and a personal hardship of losing a loved one. Can someone please tell me if I have a good chance because I am going to have to register for UOP and if I get in to UCSC I will have to withdraw and lose about $600.

For those of you appealing to UCs, the ones I'm appealing say that they would like a transcript, preferably an official transcript. Does that mean for sure that I can send in a non official one? I just realized I don't have time to get an official one, but I can obtain a non official one...I'm kind of nervous about this sweatingbullets.gif
