Well, I'm getting them removed soon, so I was wondering if it was a complicated procedure or not and how long it takes to heal, etc.

Thanks! =D

well it depends on how its growing. if its impacted (growing sideways) then they'll cut into your gums and break the tooth into pieces and remove it. if its grown out completely they may just pull it out the way they would with other teeth.
most people heal within 2-3 days :]

im getting mine removed in a wk haha im quite nervous about it

It's not that complicated. They knock you out with laughing gas and depending on the condition of your wisdom teeth it might take longer or shorter to get the teeth out. But after you wake up you might be a little nauseous or dizzy from the laughing gas. It usually takes people a few days to a week to heal. For me, it took me an entire week to heal and begin to eat solid food again. But you just need to be patient with eating after your surgery. Some people may require painkillers to control the pain they experience and be sure to keep an ice pack to your face for the first few hours after your surgery so that your face doesn't become too swollen.

ADVISE!!!!
!!!Ask them to wait a little longer for the drug to react...so you wont feel anything.
i know some dentist just do it so quick you feel like they didnt drug you at all Dx (sadly that happened to me...)!!!
less time = more pain

healing depends of you. as you know everybody has diferent body, so the healing procedure is also diferent.
therefore i cannot tell you if it will be quick or long...

I just got mine out a few weeks ago. I was asleep the whole time. THe lady put the iv thing in me and i was gone in like 5 seconds. It doesn't hurt as much until a few hours later. Thats why there are pain killers!! YAY!
The healing takes about a month. Within the first week though you can see the holes closing. Mine are almost closed. If you have any questions you can ask me. I was freaking out about it and no one was there to talk to me about it tears.gif

well.. just to explain my experiience wit wisdom teeth.
i got mine pulled out in korea! i was scared to death b/c.. im scared of shots and all~~
but yeah. uhm...

he just gave me 5 shots to numb my mouth b/c i was getting both my bottoms ones pulled out... (btw. getting one on each side pulled out is hard to deal with because it's hard to eat. i accually lost weight from it becuase it was so hard to eat)
but it wasn't bad being awake.. just scary b/c you hear everything.. smell... and basically your head bounces back b/c the dentist was kinda... digging in?? lol~

but it wasn't too bad. i guess it just depends on the dentist.. and you mouth.. type??

... after i was done. my cheeks got SOOOOOOO BIG!!
and so for the first time, my dentist told me to eat lots of ice cream! :] to heal the swellingness... so yeah... i'm sure it won't be too bad.

good luck! biggrin.gif <33.

It's wierd.. i had extremely crooked wisdom teeth that grew at an angle (all 4 of them), so that when they started to move up, they would push on my molars.. I was told that i would have to have a piece of my jaw removed and have my wisdom teeth removed piece by piece. However.. when i went to the surgeon to get it removed... he just cut my gum and took them out.

All i remember is talking about my school.. knocking out.. and then slowly coming too after the surgery.. asking for antibiotics.. and then passing out again. LOOOL.

My cheeks didnt swell as much either. The worst part of the whole ordeal was not being able to eat solids for a while after the surgery..

I was freaked out about getting them removed.. cuz my mom told me horror stories about how my uncle almost died.. plus I've always had teeth problems since i was a little kid, and so getting them removed was a HUGE dread.. But it REALLY wasnt HALF as bad as I imagined. XD
It was like.. walk into office.. sleep.. walk out of office without wisdom teeth. happy.gif

**Although.. the only reason why it was so successful was cuz they put me to sleep.

I had mine remove 2 years ago and I was awake for it...it was a quick procedure, like less than 10 minutes...so i was glad I was awake for it...I remember I was hecka bleeding though...I went to the pharmacy to drop off my prescription and I thought I was drooling saliva (cuz my mouth was still numb) but instead it was blood. The pharmacist looked at me all weird...but after that I went to work...and got sent home early by my manager becuz I couldn't stop bleeding...he felt so sorry for me...lols...

i got mine removed 2 years ago, too. it actually didn't hurt until after the anesthetics starting wearing off. and it was during a thanksgiving holiday -___- it took like 4-5 days to start slimming down. START, can you believe that? it was embarrassing to go to school, but i couldn't afford to miss any of my classes! i guess it's different for everyone. i had 4 removed at once and my face was o___o HUGE.

ahh i think i need to get mine removed soon
one of them has fully surfaced, but the rest are still cutting their way through
what's more painful, the growing process or the healing after removal?

I don't think it's that complicated. They take the tooth out you bleed, get stitched up and then get the stitches removes unless they're a special thread that dissapears on its own o.o;;

My top took a couple days to heal but my bottoms too a couple weeks.
My bottom wisdoms were impacted (growing in sideways) and barely broke skin so they had to cut into my gums, cut them into four pieces ("slice it like a pizza" was how my oral surgeon put it) and take them out that way. The reason they did it that way was because the root of my bottom wisdoms were so close to a nerve - they didn't was to risk damaging it.

I was put under general anesthesia so I really don't remember much. All I remember was going in, having my mouth xrayed and the doctor telling me the kind of procedure they were going to do. Next thing I knew, I woke up at home. The only pain I was in was when my body was reacting to the general anesthesia and causing me to throw up - so that hurt like hell. Other then that, I didn't need the pain killers I was prescribed. I just took the antibiotics that they gave me because I had 2 big holes on the top of my mouth and my bottoms were stitched up.

i only got my bottom ones out a few years ago and they were impacted. I was wide awake. The worst part about it was when they injected the anesthesia and hording a cotton wad in your mouth for a few hours after. I'm scared to get my top ones out now because I actually know what's going to happen. It doesn't help that the anesthesia didn't go all the way through my left side, so I could feel a sharp pain when the tooth was being pulled out.

i got all four of mine removed late last year.

it sucked.

the process of it getting removed, eating, and healing...

horrible.

it couldn't drink/eat normally for like three weeks.

and, i have NO IDEA why but my dentist didn't prescribe pain killers.

soooo after my numbing wore off the first day, it hurt so bad that i cried.

i didn't get put to sleep either, so i was awake throughout the whole procedure.

BUTTTTTTTT

on a brighter note, i didn't swell up like most people did.

heh, hope my experience didn't scare anyone =P

It really depends.
1. If your wisdom teeth are below your gums.. then you're going to be asleep.. so you won't know what's going on. ^^;
2. If your wisdom teeth are above your gums, then you're going to be awake.. and then they're going to drilll your gums and get them out.

once you get home, your gums are going to bleed and your cheeks are going to bruise.

it'll take meh.. about 2-4 weeks to heal.

have fun. biggrin.gif

I was awake the whole time but I couldn't feel anything ... I started to talk about the Iphone out of no where apparently.

My gums were bleeding for a couple hrs and my jaw felt sore for 4 days ... Other than that, no discomfort at all.

Have yours grown out any yet?
Mine were still in my gums when they removed them, but I was put under, unlike you, since you'll be awake.
The aftermath was completely fine though. No pain, just a lot of intense swelling of my cheeks, which sucked. I had to chew gum to get my jaw working. And I could only take in liquids. Oh gosh, that sucked.

I had my left ones out on Tuesday, I didn't have any pain during or after the procedure. I took an oral sedative so I was awake during the whole thing, though I don't really remember all of it.
My bottom left was super hard to get out so I'm really swollen from all the strain.
I am not having a lot of problems with eat. Yesterday it was all soup, pudding, & Jello. But today I managed some grapes and chocolate <3

Make sure you get pain meds from your dentist.
