!!!Ask them to wait a little longer for the drug to react...so you wont feel anything.
i know some dentist just do it so quick you feel like they didnt drug you at all Dx (sadly that happened to me...)!!!
less time = more pain
healing depends of you. as you know everybody has diferent body, so the healing procedure is also diferent.
therefore i cannot tell you if it will be quick or long...

The healing takes about a month. Within the first week though you can see the holes closing. Mine are almost closed. If you have any questions you can ask me. I was freaking out about it and no one was there to talk to me about it

i got mine pulled out in korea! i was scared to death b/c.. im scared of shots and all~~
but yeah. uhm...
he just gave me 5 shots to numb my mouth b/c i was getting both my bottoms ones pulled out... (btw. getting one on each side pulled out is hard to deal with because it's hard to eat. i accually lost weight from it becuase it was so hard to eat)
but it wasn't bad being awake.. just scary b/c you hear everything.. smell... and basically your head bounces back b/c the dentist was kinda... digging in?? lol~
but it wasn't too bad. i guess it just depends on the dentist.. and you mouth.. type??
... after i was done. my cheeks got SOOOOOOO BIG!!
and so for the first time, my dentist told me to eat lots of ice cream! :] to heal the swellingness... so yeah... i'm sure it won't be too bad.
good luck!

All i remember is talking about my school.. knocking out.. and then slowly coming too after the surgery.. asking for antibiotics.. and then passing out again. LOOOL.
My cheeks didnt swell as much either. The worst part of the whole ordeal was not being able to eat solids for a while after the surgery..
I was freaked out about getting them removed.. cuz my mom told me horror stories about how my uncle almost died.. plus I've always had teeth problems since i was a little kid, and so getting them removed was a HUGE dread.. But it REALLY wasnt HALF as bad as I imagined. XD
It was like.. walk into office.. sleep.. walk out of office without wisdom teeth.
**Although.. the only reason why it was so successful was cuz they put me to sleep.

one of them has fully surfaced, but the rest are still cutting their way through
what's more painful, the growing process or the healing after removal?

My bottom wisdoms were impacted (growing in sideways) and barely broke skin so they had to cut into my gums, cut them into four pieces ("slice it like a pizza" was how my oral surgeon put it) and take them out that way. The reason they did it that way was because the root of my bottom wisdoms were so close to a nerve - they didn't was to risk damaging it.
I was put under general anesthesia so I really don't remember much. All I remember was going in, having my mouth xrayed and the doctor telling me the kind of procedure they were going to do. Next thing I knew, I woke up at home. The only pain I was in was when my body was reacting to the general anesthesia and causing me to throw up - so that hurt like hell. Other then that, I didn't need the pain killers I was prescribed. I just took the antibiotics that they gave me because I had 2 big holes on the top of my mouth and my bottoms were stitched up.

it sucked.
the process of it getting removed, eating, and healing...
horrible.
it couldn't drink/eat normally for like three weeks.
and, i have NO IDEA why but my dentist didn't prescribe pain killers.
soooo after my numbing wore off the first day, it hurt so bad that i cried.
i didn't get put to sleep either, so i was awake throughout the whole procedure.
BUTTTTTTTT
on a brighter note, i didn't swell up like most people did.
heh, hope my experience didn't scare anyone =P

1. If your wisdom teeth are below your gums.. then you're going to be asleep.. so you won't know what's going on. ^^;
2. If your wisdom teeth are above your gums, then you're going to be awake.. and then they're going to drilll your gums and get them out.
once you get home, your gums are going to bleed and your cheeks are going to bruise.
it'll take meh.. about 2-4 weeks to heal.
have fun.

My gums were bleeding for a couple hrs and my jaw felt sore for 4 days ... Other than that, no discomfort at all.

Mine were still in my gums when they removed them, but I was put under, unlike you, since you'll be awake.
The aftermath was completely fine though. No pain, just a lot of intense swelling of my cheeks, which sucked. I had to chew gum to get my jaw working. And I could only take in liquids. Oh gosh, that sucked.

My bottom left was super hard to get out so I'm really swollen from all the strain.
I am not having a lot of problems with eat. Yesterday it was all soup, pudding, & Jello. But today I managed some grapes and chocolate <3
Make sure you get pain meds from your dentist.
