But my friend, who loves milk, says it doesn't work. SHe was like "Whoever said drinking milk makes you taller is lying, 'cause I've been drinking milk every day and I'm still short."

Milk alone does nothing to growth unless your growth plates are still active and opened, they can increase density of bone but it won't stretch height just width, there are good build blocks and stimulants in milk.
Nutrients in milk:
calcium; the main structural building blocks in your bones,
magnesium; helps synthesise proteins and strengthen bone structure,
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1); a sort of stimulant and a by product of growth hormone that promotes growths and recovery,
proteins; the basic working and structural building block of the body,
bovine colostrum*; stimulant that boost Immune system, growth, physic strength.
*(If lucky enough to get milk from a cow that's just given birth)
Having extra building block such as calcium and proteins won't make a difference, just like a house with a specific building plan that has extra bricks, the bricks are just going to lay there when the required amount of bricks are already used up. The stimulants, hormones, growth factors or whatever you call them are the builders, they speed up the amount of bricks being laid, once the building has finish they have little use except for repairing, builder work according to the structural plan and need. Everyone has a building plan and that's your genetics.
I'm bad with analogies
I drink 2 litres (8 glasses) of milk a day cause I'm a lac-ova vegetarian(I depend on milk and eggs for liquid and protein rather than soy and other beans) at the age of 16, I used to drink atleast 1 litres (4 glass) when I was 11, that's not including cheese and yogurt I eat everyday. 75% of milk is complete protein so it's a slightly better quality than soy. After all these years I'm still short, though my leg and arm bones are very dense on X-ray pictures, possibly due to the combination of running, jumping exercises and calcium intake. I have 3 time the daily recommended amount of calcium and I always tend to get anemic once in awhile due to malabsorptions, calcium and iron has to cancel each other out

I might be very likely to put a remedy for height increase, it'll be very a intensive height growing routine with a 97% fail rate, I just don't have the time or equipment right now. When I say intensive I mean like giving up atleast 2 hours a day. everyday for months on end exercising, stretching and hanging using lots of weights and equipment. The routine will be designed to for people will closed inactive growth plates by totally altering the building plan that I'd talk about from my previous post above, the only way change your genes is put your self through so much pain and endurance of time that the piezoelectrical current would change genetics, I.E going through hell is the only way for me. There must be a need for my bones for adapt to in order to grow, if you have a large muscle mass your bones will adapt to grow wider in order to support it, the piezoelectrical current produced from the actual exercise may actually change your genetics or atleast phenotype, all I have to do is to make a routine that obeys wolf's law in a vertical sense so I grow in length and not width.

I want to be 5'8" but i'm just like... 5'6.. and a half or something.
I drank so much milk but never worked out.
I think yoga might help or stretching in general.
How much do you want to grow?

Tall fathers tend to have taller daughters and tall mothers tend to have taller sons and vice versa.

^amore:
omgsh, a 4'11"-er!!!!
that's my height T_T
i just wanna kill my genes and like create a new one.
i'd REALLY like to grow over 5 ft, but i doubt that's happening.
my mom's at my height, so i doubt i'm growing anymore either.
howeverrrrr, my parents continue to make me drink like a gallon of milk everday,
and jumproping. they apparently heard somewhere that jumproping help you get taller. >_<
as for an input on this topic, milk helps strengthen your bones and teeth!
its good to drink milk, but it only plays a part in helping you grow taller.
maybe you should try jumproping (like me =_=) or stretching like some people said up there ^.

well i used to drink milk when i was 9-12...like 3cups everyday o-o... at 6th grade, i was the tallest one in my class... then i stopped... and i dont think i ever took a cm after that. haha.
your 17... it might not really work now... unless your "late" in your...you know... it still depends if your a boy or a girl.
girls usually stop growing(taller) around 18... but if your a boy... lol you still have 3 years?
so try it. just remember to do exercices too... only milk wont help

because it makes your bones really strong so i guess do a lot of stretching or play sports like basketball or volleyball , drink 2 cups of milk a day and depending on ur genes you might grow
good luck!
