Japanese sushi usually has fish in their sushi.

I've seen types of Korean sushi that have spam or ham inside and some egg too. I think they also have pickles inside.

I;ve heard Korean sushi with spam came about becuase after ww2 and the korean war there was too much surplus spam left over from the US army so every1 started using it in sushi...

is that true and do you eat spam sushi at home? or even if you have eaten before, what is it like? do you like it?

You mean kimbap? I guess that's Korean version of Sushi ... or Japanese sushi is Korean version of Kimbap... something like that. sweatingbullets.gif

Anyways, I don't really see sushi with spam in it, but I do see musubi. ph34r.gif

Spam musubis rock! I've never seen spam kimbap in Korea but I have seen them in Guam. They are delicious.

lol gimbap... is so so so so good! there's a korean ahjumma here who makes them every morning with her co-workers! and the first time i went to her shop, she proudly told me to try the gimbap there! The gimbap, for some reason, tastes better because it seems to be made with the shop's love for korean food tongue.gif

it's so, so, so good! but still, on that note, japanese sushi is also good smile.gif i don't think you can really compare the two! they are completely dissimilar tastes!

I think i've only had spam musubi in Hawaii... i don't think i've ever seen it marketed as korean sushi though... the shop that i go to sells tuna fish (the kind you can get in cans), spicy tuna fish, and beef! AHHH this is making me hungry!

Of course it isn't the same and kimbbap as more vegetables in it than a Japanese sushi type will. Either way, each are good and delicious. One's just more expensive, that's all. smile.gif

Korean sushi is called kimbap, and it's definitely not the same as Japanese sushi.

At my Japanese friend's graduation, her aunts made so much spam sushi... It was pretty amazing.

They mixed veggies like carrots and some green stuff (no idea what it was) as well as tiny bits of eel, some chunks of spam and wrapped it in rice and nori seaweed.

It was so good! They even taught me to make it at home. I love spam sushi. I think it's only a Japanese American thing, though...

what is the correct romanization? kimbap or gimbap? i notice they changed the k to g spelling unsure.gif

anyways gimbap is more like wrap rather than sushi.
