i'm a first degree black belt, and wasnt for too long.
and, IMO i don't think i need to get to a really high degree, wasting tons of money.
and i was going to quit anyways this summer because we're moving a fair distance away from the dojo.
and i think after i quit, i'll be able to hit the gym and work on more important stuff.
over the spring and summer just hit the gym, and september, i hit up another tkd dojo..
but this thread is mix of all..but, this is more like "RESPECT" in tae kwon do.
not to be cocky, but my grand master has given me maad love and he expects a lot from me.
such as starting a tkd club at school and so..so, i was wondering how i can just quit..yeah, my mom supports my idea, cuz after i quit
i get much more time to study, and won't have to cram in everything, since after tkd i get home and get outta the shower at 9:00
QUESTION:
with a grandmaster with much love, how can i quit respectfully?
with parents support.

Say how the things are.
If martial arts arent your thing then no one should force you to continue them. Because doing something what is not interesting is bs.
Just say that you have to study harder and now you dont have time to do so.
See you maby later.. in the future maby.

if i stuck with TKD, i'd probly try to do it professionally, then i wouldn't be making as much as i do now. I still know how to defend myself, which is good enough for me. I've moved on to bigger and better things. If your grandmama loves you, she'll wants what's best for you. If TKD isn't your only dream, move on. Your fam should understand bro.

Just leave if you arent feeling it no point in training half heartedly.
Martial Arts require sacrafice paid in blood sweat and tears.

May God have mercy upon my enemies, because i wont.

if you don't wanna do TKD and wanna leave with 'respect', just tell the truth about your reasons for leaving - no one's gonna force you to stay. there's no point if you don't wanna be serious with it anymore (but kinda don't say that you don't wanna be serious to your kwang jang nim or else you could get screwed over like i did). :]
there's a wide wide world outside of TKD. go forth and seek it out. =P

If your grandmaster loves you so much, shouldn`t he be able to respect your decision to quit because he doesn't control your lifestyle, and TKD isn't as much of a priority as school.

hahaha woahh i was in the same situation as u like a few years back...im a first degree black belt but i was rly getting tired of the same ol routine...learning all the forms, breaking the boards, learning new kicks....ya same old song. so i just had to quit. im not a quitter, but i rly had to stop, i wasnt enjoying it anymore and i had to focus more on my studies...and it even got to the point where i dreaded going to class !!! but rly the decision is up to you..if u rly think ur not cut out for it anymore, then you should consider taking a break from it. its been a couple years since i stopped...and now i kinda wanna learn another martial art..maybe judo or even the brazilian capoeira!! lol good luck!!
