Yeah, I didn't get a letter about awards day either. =/

Also, how did you guys (specifically, AzNdAyDrEaMeR) get so much money? ^^ Is that the sum of money you'll get from UOP after you combine what you get in scholarship per year? I got the Founders Scholarship and I thought that was the highest scholarship they give out. sweatingbullets.gif I was also wondering if anybody in this forum got the Founders Scholarship..? I think sometimes they have meetings for the Founders kids.

Since people were discussing about living in dorms earlier...
I'm going to be living in the honors dorms as well. I'm not sure if I want to live in John Ballantyne or Carter yet... I still need to check them out some more because I can't really tell the difference.. ^^;;

Also to AzNdAyDrEaMeR, I'd personally prefer living in the dorms because that's one of the biggest reasons I'm looking forward to college. haha Just to become more independent and get the whole college experience. ^^ However, I must say living at home has some good benefits too.. and I don't think it'll be too difficult making friends. As f0reveralways said, us soompi-ers will be your friends!
;D

Yeah, I'm really excited attending UOP as well. As I said earlier, I got into the 2+3 program. I don't know any incoming freshman either. =// One of friends applied and got into 3+3 but he decided to go to UCLA. >_<;; Anyhow, I'll also be attending Profile Day! =D So maybe I'll meet some of you guys. =]]

mmmm yeah i didn't get anything for that awards day either O_O

AzNdAyDrEaMeR: i think you should live on campus since part of the whole college thing is to live at the dorms? yay for soompi and the many people here who are considering going to UOP biggrin.gif lol but yeah i'm pretty excited about going...but the workload is just daunting --

yoursassyg1rl: i got a lot of money from UOP too....like the regents scholarship i think? didn't get the founders....but at the same time i got A LOT of financial aid from the state/government also...so that might be a reason ;] ahhh and nice to meet you i'm jackie! lol since we are both in the 2+3 program...i'm trying to get to know people since NO ONE from my school is going there --

I think I would qualify for the honors program, but I don't know who to talk to? huh.gif

is that a question? blink.gif

if you're asking about how to find out if you're qualified for the honors program, you should have received an email & a mail-in letter

- The email was awhile back, inviting you & your parents to attend the Pacific Honors Day Program on Thursday, March 27th. Some people received phone calls, but i didn't unsure.gif

- The mail-in letter says, "Congratulations on your recent acceptance to the University of the Pacific. Because your strong academic record puts you in the top fifteen percent of our students, we would like to invite you to join the Honors Program." It then asks you to reply back within 2 weeks (the letter is dated March 25, 2008) whether or not you'd like to A] accept the honors program invitation & apply for honors housing; B] accept the honors program but not the honors housing; or C] reject the honors program invitation.

I suppose you can always call and ask if you haven't gotten anything (but think you should have).

Helloo Jackie! biggrin.gif Glad to meet you. My name is Jennifer (although you guys can call me Jen or Jenny). yayy for not knowing any incoming freshmen next year. haha ^^;; that seems to be the case for a lot of people. I was thinking... Wouldn't it be funny if one of us ended up rooming with somebody in this forum? xD There's actually a pretty high chance of that happening.. since they usually put people with same major in the same dorm rooms. xD

pinkflamingoqt:
hmm that is pretty weird that you didn't get any info on the honors program since you're in 2+3... I'd try calling to ask about that. I got emails and letters about honors stuff like f0reveralways though. I also think they briefly mentioned the honors program in your acceptance letter.

Profile Day is a week away! biggrin.gif yayy
btw, how far are you guys from UOP? I live about an hour away.

what's CIP? i know CHP is campus honors program..

and uh.. i didn't get anything about any awards day.

f0reveralways HOORAY for making a decision on attending Pacific =]

C.I.P. is a financial aid program specially for U.O.P. Stockton Residents
The requirements are you must be a Stockton resident for some amount of years, show community involvement, show financial need, and fill out an application with 2 essays along with a letter of recommendation. C.I.P. stands for College Involvement Program. If only my grades were a little better I might have been able to get into C.H.P. ><

I've decided to live on campus for the first year =] Even though I would have preferred to live in the Honors dorm, I didn't study hard enough in high school, meh~ After reading everyones post I think overall it would be better if I lived on campus for at least the first year. I'll be going to profile day with my dad since i live 10 minutes away from U.O.P. =P

I logged in today and saw a couple friend requests from a couple of people from this thread going to UOP and decided to make a list of everyone thats confirmed and going to U.O.P. I don't know which program simple.dreams got into so i just put freshman but everyone here is planning on the Pre-Pharm program. There were a few others who posted once or twice but never confirmed themselves going to U.O.P. Heres the list so far.

Confirmed Fall '08 UOP Students
f0reveralways 3+3
pinkflamingoqt: 3+2
jeezchris.: 3+3 (undecided)
how_tacky: 3+2 (undecided)
amy3may: 3+2
s-kim: 3+3
yoursassyg1rl: 3+2
simple.dreams: freshman
~*yubkigirl*~: 2+3
AzNdAyDrEaMeR: freshman exploratory

^ oh wow. that's useful (:

i searched the two UOP threads & how_tacky got into 5 year pre-pharm

i don't know if how_tacky or jeezchris is confirmed though

everything else on the list seems right though

on the first day of school or w/e day we move in, we should arrange a soompi meet. haha

oh yeah, and it turns out i actually do known someone in my school going to UOP. she'll be a 6-year pre-dentistry student. too bad i don't really like her.. coughahemaghaskdfcough.

LOL, I think I check this thread every day. I can't believe you guys made a list. That's so cute XD I'm still undecided as to whether I want to go here or UCSD, but if I do, it'd be fun to meet up with soompi people (: I don't know anyone else from my school who's going here.

Shoot. Are you serious? Today is like the two week mark, isn't it? And if I do go to UoP, I think I'd rather stay in honors housing........ I think I have to reread all those letters they sent me u__u;

^ you can still send it out tomorrow (: the two week mark is on Tuesday, i believe. and i'm not so sure if that 2-week reply request really does anything, anyway. all i got back in the mail was some housing packet that seems like all incoming freshmen get :/

i don't know how many people are invited to honors housing.. but in the packet, it says that John Ballantyne Hall "offers priority for placement to 91 first year students who are invited to participate in the Honors Program." For Carter House, it says it is "home to 63 first-year students in the Honors program." so.. 154 spots available for freshmen honors housing? that doesn't seem so bad considering only 100 students are admitted for pharmacy anyway. and besides, i'm sure many of those offered admission + honors into UOP won't even go to UOP. so you shouldn't have anything to worry about

how funny... my parents want me to go to uop... but a tiny part of me want to go to ucsd... haha (cause it's farther from home x] & i'll know a lot more people there...) so far... the only people i know for sure who are attending uop... are the people from soompi...
my friend from school called uop today and they told him that only 40 made it into the 5yr pre-pharm, 40 to 6yr pre-pharm and 20 to 7yr pre-pharm.... so... in conclusion, soompi has some really smart butts in here (: haha

btw, are there any pre-dents in here? =X

lol, same here.. still trying to decide between UoP and UCSD

my friend's going to pre-dent! (maybe...)

oh snap, I have to turn in mine too >__<

I missed Honors day, but I'll be attending profile day :]

lol, so many Soompiers got into 5 year prepharm.. and to make that list longer, I also got in ;D and I know this one other girl at my school got in, but iono if she's on soompi

and a question for those of you in Honors programs, besides having nicer dorms, are the Honors courses easier/harder than regular courses? are there addtional requirements for the honors program?

thanks!

lol I remember I got the honors thing and I threw it away. Two weeks later I actually pick it up to read it because I thought it was another junk mail...

CRAP! I mailed the thing as fast as I could. I think I was late, but still accepted. However, my roommate was totally opposite of the boxes I checked, so yea. I think it's a good idea to live with a bunch of freshman. If you go to other dorms, there's a lot of sophomores and then the dorm isn't as 'together' as freshman dorms.

haha It seems like quite a few Soompiers are going to UOP. See you guys in the fall!

Sorry I won't make profile day cuz my friend's bday party is during the time.

^ LOL, nice one.

So it's ok to mail it even if you're not sure you're definitely going there?

Oh, and I'm not going to profile day either /: Seems like a lot of people here can't make it, aha.

i actually got into the 2+3 pre-pharm program.. but requested to switch into pre-dent... so now i'm waiting on the whole new set of package that they haven't mailed yet or i haven't received yet... >[

and my honors program reply thing.. it says that my major is pre-pharm.. i dont know whether if i should wait for the "new" one with the corrected things or just send this one in first.. =X

btw, i transferred into the 2+3 pre-dental program. ^^; i'm not 100% sure if the transfer is .. complete? O.o? or valid at this point... but mr. toledo person said i got in... so... *cross fingers*

& i'm sad.. haha everyone here's in pre-pharm program.. =/ hopefully we can dorm in the honors dorm together or something (:

^yeah, that's the gist of it. i really don't recommend it unless you know you're gonna stay in pre-pharm for sure. once i quit pre-pharm, i saw no reason to be there and got the hell out.

I agree. If you have doubts about pursuing pharmacy, then I wouldn't recommend UOP's pre-pharmacy program. I say the "program" because once you're in as a 2+3 or 3+3, they don't even require a bachelor's degree from you. That may be a huge advantage for people who are do-or-die pharmacy majors, but for others that end up changing their minds along the way, they basically get screwed. That's what happened to me. >.< I had doubts from the beginning, but I was an idiot and chose UOP anyway, and now I'm facing dire consequences. I should have just left UOP once I decided not to do pharmacy anymore, but seeing as how I already completed so many science courses, I just decided to stay and finish up with a bio degree since I'm too lazy to transfer schools.

If you're 100% positive you want to do pharmacy, then by all means, go for it. UOP is a good school for pharmacy. If it's for you, then you'll survive. No problem. But if your heart isn't really where you think it is, then you might want to do some reconsidering.

As for life in Stockton, I think the majority of students just get used to things. You might be bored in the beginning, but that boredom will fade once you learn to just accept the way life is over here haha. If you know how to have fun, you'll find a way to have fun no matter where you are. Stockton really isn't as bad as people think it is. One good thing about living off-campus is that rent is cheap! You can live in brand new houses, get your own room, and pay as little as $200-300 per month per person. Not bad huh? smile.gif

^ you say that 2+3 and 3+3 pre-pharm program doesn't give you a bachelor's degree.. but supposedly mr. toledo said that if you're in 3+3 pre-dental program.. you'll receive a bachelor's degree along with the license to practice dentistry or something?...
