So I got the Season 1 DVD of The Wire recently...and I just marathoned through all 13 episodes. This is some extremely well written and intelligent television. Does anyone even write TV scripts this good anyone? I'm wondering if anyone else watches it here, since the story takes a while to set up and its fairly low key at first and the African American characters (of which there are many) can be hard to understand and look really similar to each other at times, making this a sorta hard series to get into...but it's totally worth it.
If you've never heard of this show, its a show on HBO that is basically a police/crime show, with a slow moving story that moves through about one case a season. Character development is really subtle but really good at the same time, and the realism in the show is a great change of pace. Apparently some criminals watch The Wire to try to counter real police investigation/wiretapping situations. The first season switches back and forth from the viewpoint of law enforcement and the viewpoint of the people on the streets, and new sets of characters are added every season. I can't really explain much better than this, but I love this show and it's a shame that I've never heard of it before this.
