UPDATE ~ 7/9/08
I had my first meal today! hahaha
here's a picture of my smile with the braces on (you can't see them! smile.gif)

and here's a picture of the braces. it was difficult taking ones of the bottom teeth, so sorry they're not too great ><
(one of my bottom teeth doesn't have a bracket yet because there isn't enough space yet)

UPDATE ~ 7/8/08
I finally got my braces on! yesterday. it took about three hours to get them on sleep.gif they aren't too bad, but I admit it's not too fun trying to eat! so far the only pain I feel is the pressure from the movement (hopefully that'll be all). I do have a slight lisp, but it's only on the "s" and "z" sounds. BUT you can't see them at all smile.gif yay~ I'll try to take pictures tomorrow and I'll post them (it's a difficult angle haha) they are much thinner than the picture below. they're fitted especially for my teeth (why it took so long to get them) and I'm very satisfied with my decision

UPDATE ~ 3/26/08
okay so first off, thanks to all who replied
next, I know a lot of you have been asking things such as: "wouldn't those hurt your tongue?" "hard to eat with?" "pricing?"
today I went for my first consultation with one of the orthodontists that I have decided to choose from, and her quote for my pricing is $7661 after insurance. one of the guys working at the office currently has these on and I talked to him about them. really, I couldn't tell that he had them on. when I first walked in he smiled at me and asked how I was doing and I didn't expect him to have braces on. apparently the first couple of weeks it's hard to talk with (lisp unsure.gif) but after that adjusting period he forgets that they're there.
my mom has decided that I can get them, I just need to talk to my dad about it. the price is really... crazy.gif but I'll probably be wearing these a little through my senior year and I know a lot of you are saying how they aren't that bad, but I don't want my senior picture to be me flashing a mouth of metal tongue.gif

and I noticed that the iBraces are much thinner than those in the picture I posted before
they don't stick out and they kind of "hug" your teeth

Lingual braces are attached behind your teeth, so that they are virtually invisible to other people.

I've been stuck in a rut for the past year trying to decide if I should get braces because my upper and lower jaws are not aligned with each other. I've finally decided that I need them because it seems that they are just getting worse as time passes. dry.gif

I was just wondering if anybody here has or has had lingual braces and would like to share their experiences and opinions!

lingual braces are more expensive than regular ones
also they're a pain in the a$$ for the patient and the orthdontist
because the metal is on the back of the teeth, it's harder
for them to attach and tighten it
if you don't want it to seem like you have braces try invisalign

Wouldn't that hurt you're tongue though? o_o;;
Because then it's surrounded by metal (that can turn prettyy sharp. =_=).

what's so bad about regular braces? and i don't think they make people look any better or worse so you shouldn't worry about them not looking great on you.

i dunno. i personally wouldn't want anything on the back of my teeth. it must be hella awkward when the orthodontist is trying to look back there.

I feel sorry for your parents or whoever is paying for those.

I would hate to get food stuck in there, or cutting my tongue. But, it does make it easier to floss.

i have regular braces, and the metals hurt ALOT when u first get them
if you get them inside sleep.gif I asume it will hurt ALOT and you might get ur tongue cut or even have blisters
though you could try to get brackets that are the porcelion(sp?) type, which i have (you do pay a bit extra though)
when ppl look at ur teeth it'll look like a wire instead of the square and wire classic look, though
you gotta becareful >.> they could turn yellow-ishy and when food gets stuck it looks kinda gross
>.> if i had a choice i would've picked the regular metal type. but braces aren't that bad, there's a good and bad side to it.

exactly. That looks way more painful than regular braces, which are already pretty bad once you first get them. Your tongue will probably be raw all the time..I know my cheeks were when I had regular braces.

oh and I forgot to add that I play the flute in my school's wind ensemble and I know it takes a long time to get your embouchure back (if ever) once you get braces >< so that's one of the biggest reasons for me to get linguals instead of traditional metal braces

They are a pain seriously and your tongue will hurt a lot. You might also develop a lisp.
Why don't you just get invisalign or something?

because my problem isn't the teeth, but I have a misaligned jaw and my lower jaw midline doesn't match my upper jaw midline. I don't think invisalign can fix jaw problems sad.gif

I don't think braces fix jaw problems. If your teeth are misaligned then braces will fix it. And also, people might see it when you laugh or yawn. And then then might go o.O wth is that? Then you have to deal with explaining again and again. And I'm sure people will notice your teeth 'mysteriously' moving. Have you gone to the orthodontist and asked if this will fix jaw problems?

I think you should use invisalign.
"because my upper and lower jaws are not aligned"

thats just underbite/overbite right? o_o
If your teeth are already straight, you should just get retainers?

Im pretty sure invisalign corrects overbite/underbites

Isn't invisalign just clear braces? If you have an underbite, where your lower jaw sticks out more than your upper jaw. You probably need surgery. My friend had to get braces and then have her surgery.

I've never had those, but I've had something similar, and my guess is those will probably hurt like hell. I know all braces do at first, but those are probably going to cut up your tongue and everything until your tongue becomes "calloused." I had to get a bracket on the inside of my back molar for the sake of rubberbands to align my jaw, and that was painful enough... I don't want to imagine an entire mouth full of inner brackets. My tongue was cut and sore from just one for a long time, and it made it painful to eat and talk and everything.

Who knows, maybe these are different. But as for me, I wouldn't want to risk it... I'd rather just get the cheaper, "normal" braces. I'm willing to bet you're freaking out over nothing, you'll probably look fine with them. @___@

Braces wont affect your playing, I could still play the same with, and then currently without them.

I've thought about getting the same kind of braces. But my end verdict was decided based from cost-wise.

I'm opting for the cheaper version.
