Hi. Thank you for viewing this troubleshoot topic! I really need your help! Please T-T
Computer Type

Windows XP
HP Pavilion a1630n
AVC [Fan box]

The Problem

^My fan box looks like that. [ABC fan box].

While I was on my computer, I heard a clinkkk! sound. After that, the fan started to whirl and whirl and whirl. After that, the computer just SHUT down.
I opened up the computer, and then I saw a small black piece. Its what the metal long piece held onto! So the metal long piece would latch onto the small black piece (on both sides) to keep the fanbox in place.

I have my PC layed on its side, so the fan box stays in place. If i do that, the computer works. If I have my PC up right, (the fan box isn't held into place) and the comoputer acts funky--then shuts down immediately.

My attempts to fix it?

-I tried to superglue the small black piece back onto the fanbox's "stage". It wouldn't stick.

At the moment, i have it laying on its side (the fan box is in place).

Any Solutions?

Its a fairly new computer [6months or more, but its around that].
New fanbox & its stage it 'latches' onto i think would be expennnnsive~. T-T

What should i do?
Is it okay if my PC thing lays on its side? its a big awkward but if it dosen't damage the computer then I guess if this is what I have to deal with then yea. OR do i have to buy a new fan box && stage thingy.

Sorry for my weird tech-Vocabulary. I call the AVC thingy FAN BOX (because its shaped like one) and the thing its supposed to stick to a STAGE THINGY. Between the two things, theres this whiteish peach substance. Its not glue. Its not sticky. But its like a creamish thing. Something between those two things work together to make the computer function.

I hate technology when it breaks. ._.

Help please!! T-T

HP usually has 1 year warranty

Anyways it sounds like the CPU heatsink mounting bracket broke on the motherboard.

It looks like you're going to have to try to find an after market heatsink and hope it fits. I was trying to think of a good term to search for but I can't seem to find the bracket. SO you will need to find one that comes with a backplate and all that for a socket AM2 cpu and HOPE they didn't come up with custom mounting holes.

Zalman - does not seem to use the mounting holes

Will be searching

Edit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835999353 < perhaps this is what you are searching for?
I think you can search for the manual to see if you can find a diagram to see if the dimensions of the mount matches.

Well, the temporary solution we're using is putting the computer sideways. =[
We have to buy it ASAP.

CLOSE THIS THREAD PLEASE!
Problem solved. =]
