hey. just thought i'd give you my 2 cents on the school. i go to FIDM right now i'm not a design major, i do merch marketing but all i have to say is i don't really like my school. honestly, its a shitload of money for tuition and i feel really smart amongst my classmates (obviously it's shocking to me because i really don't like to study and never considered myself too smart but im passing my classes with flying colors) I mean I understand that i go to a fashion school and all but sometimes i get really irritated at how dumb some of my classmates are especially when it comes to doing group projects.
I haven't graduated yet so i don't know how successful i will be but since i've been at FIDM i've decided that i want to get my degree somewhere else preferably a CSU or UC so after this next quarter i'm going to work on transferring (thinking of CSULB because they offer a bachelors in merch marketing), not only to save myself alot of money but because i really don't feel like i learn much here.
The application process is super easy. You'll pretty much get in no matter what, that means even if your portfolio is crappy you'll most likely be accepted. Since the first day i started school and up until today i am a full time student, full time worker (i work 2 jobs actually-office work M-F and retail on the weekend), and still make time to drink at least 3 times a week and go clubbing happy.gif. People say i'm insane for working from 8:30am to 4:00pm and then going to school from 6:00pm to 9:00pm but it doesn't really bother me since i have to work in order to pay for my car, gas, clothes, bags, alcohol, etc.
I really don't know what else to tell you except that FIDM isn't really that great and i'd advise you to stay away. T_T I only chose this school at first because i didn't attend school after i graduated highschool for like 4 years and i wasn't really left with too many choices and FIDM was the only school that offered a major i was interested and could match my schedule.

Hope this was of some help to you.
Let me know if you have any other questions because i have friends here that are design majors and some of them really don't like the school as well. >.<

.....yeah...
well, I'm a first year fashion major at otis college of art and design and pretty much FIDM is a joke here. This also includes that students at parsons and FIT, to name the least, also take FIDM as a joke. FIDM is only a 2year degree, and this may be ideal for some, but really in two years you may be able to get a job when you graduate, but it will most likely be a job as the assistant of a four year degree private art graduate. Sorry if I may be the one to rain down on your parade, but just to clear things up, my opinions are not biased due to the research and info that I dug up on Fidm previously when I was searching for a college to attend.
If you want a proper education that will provide you with all the necessary skills to become a successful fashion designer/etc. an four year private art college is recommended. But the downfall in attending a private art school is the SHITACULAR expense of tuition compared to FIDM. But! it is weelllllll worth the money.the education I am getting at OTIS is amazing and exclusive.
But CSULB does have a decent fashion program that is pretty competitive and well known and was thinking of doing that myself before just because the prices were more practical and realistic.-____________-T

...soo, that's just my piece of mind, and I hope some of it helps you in your decision.
ultimately it's what school fits your lifestyle and aspirations.

-good luck, and I know I did'nt answer all your questions, but I've run out of time,so if you need more help just ask~

peaceout~
