Hi! I am planning on going to college for all four years. BUT! I was wondering.... If I take a 3 full years of school (Fall, Winter, Spring, and SUMMER) would it be possible if I graduate a year earlier than expected. OR Would I just finish all my main courses that are major related and then start taking electives later? O_o?

It really depends on wat major u'll doing. Some major has less requirements than others but tat is possible. Wat is ur major?

^Agree with that person.
As for my majors, I couldn't take upper division classes during summer simply because they weren't offered.
But if all of your classes are offered during summer (or some of them), I say go for it.

usually gers take 2 yrs to finish (well depends on where you go too..i got to lib arts school)
but if you have AP cred or joint enrollment credit, u can knock that out in one year
and then you can focus on ur major the last two years(you should have a couple classes relating to your major in the 1st year anyway)

Are you on the quarter or semester system? At my school it is very possible to graduate early... although I don't know anyone who did. I've been told a triple major is possible, so I'm assuming its possible to do a single major and graduate early instead...

I say you become a responsible college student and do the research and calculations yourself with the assistance of your course cateloge and calculator.

there's no way we can give you a sure answer unless we know of your exact situation. there are too many variables which can change our answer from yes to no and vice versa.

I agree with that. My school has a catalog where it tells you the requirements and how many hours you need for each. Through that I can calculate when I should be finished and whatnot. It all depends on that and how many classes you're going to take and can handle. Some classes have a lot of projects and some have papers and stuff. Like now all of my classes it's mostly test's and writing papers. One weekend I had to write a paper for every class which sucked so you sometimes have to think about things like that and how you can handle it. And yes as some others have said you can only take certain classes at certain levels and you have to have other requirements before hand.

^^^ Well it might be true... but that's what I am sorta looking forward to... Because I want to finish school as early as I can... (I Literally don't want my parents to suffer about the thoughts of the tuition and such anymore...) Even if I have to triple my work load to graduate early. Well now that some of you are mentioning the catalog... I believe I don't get the catalog till late spring/summer(Before or during the orientation) I think... Plus I'm only doing dual major's for Mass Media Communication(Main Major) and Psychology. Of course I did my calculation, but I don't know how the classes and courses go in the school... sadly... But Anymore advices..?

Talk to your advisor. There should be online catalogs at your school's main website. But yes, it should be possible to graduate early, because my friend is doing it.

it's still impossible to tell without you telling us which institution you are attending, which professors you are taken, and without the class syllabuses. i've gotten away with getting a 4.0 while taking on 22+ credits (5 1/2 classes) (mainly polisci and econ.)...but there were times i've barely managed in other classes while taking 16 credits (4 classes)

talk to the upperclassmen, and your adviser.

I know where you're coming from wanting to graduate as early as you can, but please consider your resting time, socializing time, and time for yourself--in college you need to take care of yourself...I should know. It's too easy to calculate and schedule classes and tuition but when it gets down to it, it's about how you are able to pass your classes and graduate with your sanity intact and without causing yourself physiological harm. College is hard and a lot of people can attest to how it has taken a toll on them forcing them to quit or take time off. I'm not trying to scare you by the way its just that you have to consider burning out.
If you don't go after what you want, you'll never get it. If you don't ask the answer is always no. if you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.

Just check the requirements for your major and you can go by that and figure out when you'll graduate and if you want to get out earlier than expected go more if you want. I was going to attend summer classes this summer but decided to wait until next when I'm closer to being finished.

Yes it's possible. It's what I did. 3 years. I took 18 credits each term after the first year and then loaded with a little more my maximum was 21. (just depends on how much you can handle). I took 2 summer sessions total of 12 credits. I have some transfer credits. Im graduating with 126 credits. over the 120 minimum for liberal arts.

Do it. You can easily finish a 4yr degree in 3yrs. The key is to prove your excellence in your first year, so that you can convince your admin to take certain course concurrently. The biggest mistake I made in my undergrad was sticking around for 4 years. I could have easily done it in 3 and save myself a whole year.
"But when it ends and while it ends, something comes, after so much rage, persistence, obstinacy, extravagance; something entirely unexpected and touching in its mildness and goodness. With the motif passed through many vicissitudes, which takes leave and so doing becomes itself entirely leave-taking, a parting wave and call, with this D G G occurs a slight change, it experiences a small melodic expansion. After an introductory C, it puts a C sharp before the D. . .and this added C Sharp is the most moving, consolatory, pathetically reconciling thing in the world. It is like having one's hair or cheek stroked, lovingly, understandingly, like a deep and silent farewell look. . . . " (Mann: 55).

Yes it is possible.
I'm almost done with my first two-years, and I started last semester.
I'll be done with my first two years after a full year [back to fall semester]

My sister did her first two years casually - in two years - but then she did her last two years in one year.
So I'm aiming for two years to do my four year degree. I have the first part done and mapped out happily. Now, I just have to wait to do that for the courses that go into my major [English Literature].

Everyone assumes you have to have no social life to do this - which is not true. For my sister it was, but for me it's completely false. But thats not to say I underage drink or smoke or go partying [to clear the air]. Just hanging out with friends, surfing Soompi/myspace, having fun? ^^;

I'm rushing school because I'm very interested in doing another major and perhaps going to graduate school for my first major - and doctorate for my latter? Also I have a 'thirst to see the world'
So I'll try my hardest to keep my post-college-life a bore lol

If you set your mind to it, you can do it! Good luck! happy.gif
