Hi. Thought i'd ask for help before i jump into buying my first dslr.
Well i've been shopping around for a bit and found that newegg.com seems to have the lowest prices available for the 3 dslr cameras i listed.

Nikon D40 (recertified) - $399.99

Canon Rebel XT - $454.99 (have to wait til they re-stock)

Canon Rebel XTI- $599.99

im on a budget right now so the price of the recertified nikon d40 is quite tempting.
I do know that the Nikon has the lowest megapixels but i was wondering if it would really make much of a difference for me as a beginner?
Is there a significant difference in the 3 cameras?
Also does anyone know any good websites where i can purchase used dslr's for a good price? (Just to see approximate used prices for the Canon XTI)

Thanks for your time and help. happy.gif

I shoot Nikon, but I would stay away from the D40 due to its lack of an in-body autofocus motor which limits your lens options to only AF-S and AF-I.

Personally, I'd go for a used D50 or D70; both of which can be found for under $400. Add a cheap 50 f/1.8 to it for your first lens and I'd say you're set.

Megapixels don't really matter unless you're going to be printing large. And I have no idea about any Canon equipment, rofl. :x

id say to wait another month or two
with the xsi release, the price of the xti should fall gradually

Dell has recently had huge markdowns on the xti - they were selling for 319$ (body only) about 2 weeks ago
and they were selling for $409 (body only) this morning

keep your eye out on the major deal sites
i suggest:
bensbargains.com
dealighted.com
slickdeals.net (i like this site most because you can sign up for email/text notification)
