In case any Glen Mor resident is curious, this is the response I received from the UCR Parking Services customer service supervisor:

QUOTE
You will be notified approx. the 1st two weeks in Sept if you have
received a permit. Housing permits are issued on a first come first
serve basis. If you get parking, you will pick up your annual permit on
move in day and you will be $147 per quarter to your student business
account.

There will be a list in the bookstore and on the website, but I suggest just waiting for the first day of class or until your professor sends out an email. Sometimes books actually aren't needed, and you'd end up with a book that you never used. Also, in case you end up switching classes, it'd be more hassle if you already bought the books for the current class. A lot of people wait until the first day of class, so don't worry.

oh okay cool thanks biggrin.gif

I'm a 2nd year.

And for the freshmen, ...eh it's whatever to them. I don't think many of them will care yet because they don't know what it's like attending UCR. They might be all gleeful w/ their ID cards, but watch...after fall quarter, whatever "spirit" they had before will have exponentially diminished and then will they be shameful of the prideful phrase stuck on their ID's.

To be quite honest, ...I do feel like changing my ID card because the witty phrase aside, the card does look much better than the card from the previous year and I want to have a new ID picture (mine looks effin pathetic)

One of my friends is planning on adding the word "B*TCH" in Sharpie after the "R'CARD" on our new ID Card when she gets one.

Now that's school spirit.

Indeed.

Too bad I don't even have the motivation to try tricking out my "nifty" 'ol UCR student ID. Not worth it

Ironically, I still think I might as well just give in to the $10 thing for the new look. Anyone know when this limited time offer ends?

Everyone keeps asking!

The class is pretty much a joke. You learn what a keyboard is. You learn what a mouse and monitor are. The professor teaches stuff that is otherwise common sense to anyone in today's computer and technology forward world.

Lecture is what it is. The professor talks and doesn't stop. Over half the class never shows up for lecture, but it's important to pop in once in a while because he will throw in specifics to which you'll hear: "This WILL be on the test"

The lab sessions are 3 hours long, but people generally finish within 1 hour. Assignments are ridiculously easily. You literally follow directions through a lab manual that tell you what to do (Word, Excel, Powerpoint tasks)

Easy stuff, but for some reason the tests aren't too kind, even if you study (like I did). I got C's on nearly every test and ended the class with a B. Whatever - it's still an easy class; a guaranteed pass

You'll have more fun in your dorm hall when the year starts, hopefully. I unfortunately got a really quiet hall (a bunch of people near the back of the hall formed their little social group) and a very antisocial, unpleasant RA. The RA was so bad to the point that at the end of the year, we had to have a meeting w/ the RD (Residence Hall Director) to address what was wrong.

And seeing you're from Nor Cal, you'll definitely find a lot of Nor Cal people at UCR, and they're all really chill and laid back.

I know I bagged a lot on orientation, but really - meeting new people and making new friends is the exciting and worthwhile thing about school. I met some weirdos at my orientation too. I remember there was a guy and a girl who would keep going missing during the Bear Facts activities because they would run off to smoke w/ other smokers they met. I sat next to the girl at dinner and she raked of tobacco. But when the school year started, I met some pretty cool people.

Try making the best of your first year

i just read what i typed and i sounded hella emo!! hahaha well i'm hella excited!!!!! and i've never thought about a quiet hall!!! O_O oh well just gotta hope for the best >:]

^I took microecon (econ3). It's a really easy class and an easy A. It's also 5 units so it boosted my GPA a bit.

Haha "no social bs or shyness". Love it, Brennan.

And cindy: You thought Econ 3 was an easy class?! Holy crap I thought that class was impossible. Professor Daz is a failure at life, I swear.
