My friend living in East Lo stayed over at my place in Glen Mor and we set out for East Lo @ 8am sharp. We got to East Lo around maybe 8:20ish thanks to much confusion with the re-directed traffic routes set out by UCR staff. You'd think getting there early would mean little to no people. Wrong. East Lo was MAD PACKED.

However, the overall move in process for my friend didn't take TOO long.

We noticed around 2 and 3 pm that traffic and lines had died down considerably. IDK how bad it was for some of you others. One hour to get into the parking lot sounds pretty damn bad to me. Where are you?

I was getting into Pentland. I came around 8AM so traffic wasn't that bad. But my friends came in around 11-12 ish and it was horrible.

I finally moved in!!! Still unpacking.

Ughhh I was so anti-social yesterday...Everyone looked so intimating. @_@ Or maybe I was just feeling scared/shy. I hope I am more open today...

I hope to see you Soompiers soon! I wonder who you all are. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Well, I'm totally moved in. If someone wants to hang out or meet up, you can PM me for my number or something.

It'll be cool to see you all!

I especially wanna meet you SHARK! You seem to know the answer to almost everyone's question on here. lol

I look forward to maybe inviting some of you to my apartment just to hang out and such. The A/C is like straight from Antarctica or something - freezing cold; immense relief from Riverside's horrid heat.

Ohhh I hope I'm one of them! biggrin.gif I really want to meet you..even though your "I hate UCR' stories scare me sometimes. o_o; lol

I wanna meet you too yourHERO cause you seem like you are one of the only ones who like UCR. hhahahahah

you get 5 meals per week but you have dining dollars. so if you eat dinner or lunch 5 times in the week, for the rest of the week you gotta use dining dollars to buy food.

Just so you know, you'll probably run out of dining dollars sometime in the middle of the year unless you ration your dollars carefully.

At least I would've, I think. I had Flex 7.

Is the Dean's Mandatory Orientation useful?
I know it says mandatory, but do we really need to go? because I don't want to have to walk from UV Towers if it's pointless. loll

I would think that if it said "Mandatory", it'd be important. But then again, most people are so excited that they'd rather go out and have fun.

Honestly speaking, if you don't feel like going - don't. Chances are the dean and staff are just gonna go over basic rules and stuff that should be common sense to most people.

I don't think I even attended any meetings last year, but then again, this year UCR added a lot of things for freshmen, so I can't be 100% sure on anything.

And those of you who want to meet up or whatever, you guys can feel free to PM me. And sorry if any of my past posts have stirred people the wrong way - they're just what I personally feel about UCR and Riverside in general.

BoAFriend - ah don't be sorry for how you feel about it here. ppl understand that most ppl living here (for the purpose of school) usually dont like it. i mean i had good times here, but it's time for me to move on. riverside is fun, but not as fun as it should be. and u're right, it depends on the ppl and how you interact with them.

as for the dean's orientation, i wish i saw this sooner. it's not mandatory. i found that out when i was a freshman. but it is fun to go to! u get to see all the chancellors and stuff, but it's a basic speech from what i remember. i remember thinkin to myself that i could've stayed in my dorm and just came later on for the free food.

im glad the new ppl are enjoying themselves :] we're all here to help you so feel free to msg/pm us!

Block party - After party

I'm sure most of you guys are uninterested, but!...just in case I just so happen to be mistaken...There is a party taking place after Block party, which is on friday during the week of school.

I (amongst many others) are hosting it. I know the address, but it isn't confirmed yet.

You'll likely have a lot of fun if you're not straight edge...and even if you're a complete square, perhaps you will derive some amusment and entertainment from the stupid freshman who don't know their drinking limits (Thanks to their overprotective parents). This is a great way to get to know people. If you have almost no friends, I advise you to go and have a good time and I can promise you you will have at least ONE new friend. If you're open and not completely anti-social you'll come out knowing a lot more people.

Don't be shy and insecure, trust me, use this time to get to know people (having friends mean more opportunities guys)before you're all rotting in your death beds with no one but imaginary friends to cater to you.

Oh and there will be beer pong.

...and I THINK we're providing rides.

PM me if you're interested, I don't want to spew the address in public. Just know the address will be very near UCR.

are freshmen invited? im interested and might try to get a group together. il ask my friends and anybody on my floor if they wanna go. o and can i meet u in person on campus or by dorms cuz it would be weird if i just asked my friends if they want to go to a party from some random guy on the internet.

I'm pretty sure the dean's orientation is "mandatory"
says the pamphlet.

the convocation thing yesterday was "mandatory" but since theyre stupid and tried to fit everyone in the rec room, i'd say more than half of us just got to skip it and go eat food.

We should totally meet up.

And yeah, whoever wants to meet up, we should have a get together sometime at maybe Life Cafe or Mumbles or Ten Ren's. And of course, those who do not enjoy Boba, Asian food, or Frozen Yogurt need not apply, like Keion said. wink.gif

Life Cafe, Mumbles and Ten Ren's are all located off of University, with the latter two being located under the Sterling Palms apartment complex.

Life Cafe is located by going under the freeway bridge from the main entrance into the school on Canyon Crest/University Avenue, which is near the soccer fields. This street can also be found by exiting your dorm, and walking onto the main road that follows along the Bourns Engineering Building, which I'm sure all of you know where it is (Feel free to ask anyways). You will pass a soccer field, a parking structure located on your left, as well as the University Lecture Hall and Surge Building. You will also walk by the Materials Science Building that is under construction, located on your right along this route. Keep walking straight, and go under the freeway. Life Cafe has a large sign, located one block away from the freeway, so just continue walking forward. Turn left into the parking lot, and you should be able to spot Life Cafe, which is located on the left side of University Avenue, in the left-hand corner if you are looking into the parking lot. It is nearby a Subway, Mongolian BBQ, and a lonely Frozen Yogurt no one visits.

Ten Ren's and Mumbles are along the same road. Continuing along the path you would use to get to Life Cafe, this time you would not turn but continue straight along the path, crossing the street once more. The tall highrise apartments with the palm trees every so often is Sterling Palms. There is a Shell Gas Station nearby, as well as an I-Hop. Across the street is a Coco's. It is past the University Village. Continue walking along the sidewalk, and both are located under a set of apartments. The first store is a Gelato store, and Ten Ren's follows it, and Mumbles is afterwards.

Hope that helps. wink.gif
