thanks!
that is just to help them decide what classes you need to take other wise they are going to sign you up for whatever classes you tested into. Later when they recieve the AP scores, they will change it for you if not then you go to your acedemic advisor and he/she will do it for you =]

oh another quick question, how nice/approachable are the advisors?
because i know at my school the counselors are always like "urgh i'm busy, don't have time for you students"
kind of thing ><

Hmm... all I can really think is more food places and the mall lol~ lots of food places around the campus and around Tyler and Moreno Valley. There's also bowling and ice skating close by... I don't know lol. Depends on how far you want to go, one weekend I decided to hop the metrolink for a 2 hour ride to LA for fun haha.
Um sadly no lol... I didn't think a lot of soompiers were from UCR until I saw this thread

Umm it depends on your advisers. But since you're CNAS, if I read correctly... they're pretty nice. You'll be assigned to a specific adviser for your major so you'll get to know her closely. You can do walk-ins to see your adviser, but that usually take a while around registration time~ so it's best to call or email you're adviser and they'll be happy to schedule you in. At least mine's pretty helpful ^^, lol I've seen her too many times and have spent at least an hour in her office every visit going over classes, crying, whining, or freaking out haha... yeah, emotional.
But what if I use only visa card...is that acceptable? or do I need to pay in cash/check and mail it to them???
I'm not sure about that sorry, but no option... so I guess no or you could call and ask. Although, it would still be best to pay in check and mail it in if you're sure it can make it in time lol... they charge a 2.25% convenience fee. :/ I've only paid in check and cash at the office. ^^;;

On the first payment for housing...it said we need to pay $250 using mastercard or american express, or discovery card.

They don't accept Visa for some reason.
Thank God my mom has two credit cards, haha.
They only accept Discovery, Master Card, and American Express.
They do however accept Visa for when you register for the Bear Facts Orientation.

a HUGE majority of my friends are in CNAS and they hardly ever go to their advisors, they go
to a lot cause they all say different things so we learn from upperclassmen.
as for CHASS, which im in, i have yet to see mine. i always email them and they are always prompt
and orderly, they sound pissed in their emails. the only lady i dont like is the head of the econ dept
cause i was trying to get into a class i needed and i went to ask her if i can enroll, she said no and
i i emailed her again during spring break to see if i can get into the same class but for different
quarter cause she failed to take off my reqs for that class, which i completed a year ago, and by
the time she did the class closed. and she never told me there was a waitlist for the class either...
and when i found out i got into the harder econ one

oh this sucks! T_T i was really hoping to have nice advisers so that i can easily talk to about/change my classes, unlike my mean counselors. Darn! I guess i can always ask the upperclassmen for help instead right? ><

i agree that cnas advisors don't help with anything but mean?
my ex advisor was really nice even if she was unhelpful
but the bad thing about cnas is that its all walk-ins
which mean you have to wait for at least half an hour to see your advisor
and the head econ dept advisor!? she was super nice to me when i went in to talk to her
maybe you saw them on bad days?
and i got emails back from my advisors within the next day so.. i don't know what else to say

Depends on where you want to stop lol. The prices and route are listed on the metrolink website: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/stations/detail.php?id=120
You can always get cheaper tickets before hand at UCR parking services if they're still available, save a couple of bucks.

Hearing and actually going to see the advisers are two different things. I haven't had a problem with the advisers giving out wrong information yet. Depends on how you word the question, you'll get what you ask for. They're hired to help you chose your classes and help you find other valuable resources so they know what they're talking about. And if they don't know much about what you're asking, they're give you information to contact a department, career center, etc.
As for them being mean, if you're rude to someone~ you'll get what you give lol. Sometimes they'll get stupid questions or things that you can look up yourself, or people begging to be enroll in a class when it's full and there's no waitlist, etc. Take for example the Bio5B class, this class gets full early on and people start bombarding their advisers on why it's full, they needs the class, their life is over, etc. The adviser can't help you much there instead to tell you to attend class and see. People might interpret that as not being helpful, but the advisers can't do much since the bio department handles enrollment for the full class.
Also, I do agree that the upperclassmen are a lot of help in determining what classes should be take with what and how the professors are, but still GO to your adviser to make sure you're taking the right breath requirement, right classes for your major, and you're not going over your unit limit or whatever lol.

You'll learn a lot what classes to take during Bear Facts.
You can take any kind of classes but you're REQUIRED to take classes for your major. I could take Econ, Anthropology, Computer Science, and English if I wanted but I need to take Chemistry, Biology etc. for my major.
I recommend taking a light load on your first quarter. It was pretty difficult transition for me; from high school to college. I took math, bio anthro, and english for my first quarter. I did pretty well but I know I could've done better. If you could handle 17+ units then take more classes. I have a hallmate who takes 22+ units....he's a GENIUS! hahaha. You don't have to english if you don't want to but it's better to get it over with. I suck at english so i was put in english 4. hahaha.

They gave me a catalog for fall when I went, but it's all online~ plus its updated in more detail, like how many seats are available and such: http://classes.ucr.edu/
For the language course, you will have to take the placement test~ the years you took in high school won't count. Unless you have an AP score of 3 or higher, then something will work out or so.
