(If floppy.pocky is reading this, could you please comment? Have I improved at all? Thanks...)

So, yeah. I know I'm not that great. But could you at least try listening? blush.gif hehe. Please bear with.

Oh, and it's accapella. Didn't bother mixing with an instrumental.

(In case anyone is wondering, I've never taken any kind of vocal training.)

Remember - when you're recording - it sounds best when you're recording while listening to the instrumental and having your voice monitored through your headphones

You need to start projecting too, be more confident about your singing - youre shy and it shows

You haven't improved at all. Do not do the following in which you have done with this song (for now):

a) Don't sing acapella.

b ) No mixing, whatsoever.

c) No instrumentals. You need to start off with the basics singing with the artist.

d) It's good you chose a song of Mariah Carey's, but you should've started off with Celine Dion like we told you. You need to sing ballads and that means NO FAST-PACED GENRE.

We'll give more specific instructions later on. For now, we want you to sing: Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On.

If you want to improve faster, add us on msn: floppy.pocky.16.08.07@hotmail.com for one-on-one tutoring. We won't be on this week, busy moving. However, we will be free next week. Hope to talk to you then.

You have potential! ^-^ and i agree with aliks089.
You better start projecting your vioce.

try doing scales in the morning.
and before you sing, its better you drink lukewarm water.
and try to relax when you sing, it helps your voice a lot.
Do exercises like sit ups! ^-^ and then do vocal training. it will be easier for you.

well, i guess thats all i can give. ^-^
nice try with the shake it off though.

Thank you for listening! (I know it must have been difficult)

aliks089-I don't quite understand what you mean by listening to the instrumental and having my voice monitored through my headphones...could you explain? hehe sorry. I understand what you mean by projecting more though. Yeah, I'm shy. dry.gif

floppy.pocky-thanks for the advice. I'm still working on My Heart Will Go On. It's hard, hehe. But you said to not sing acapella but not use instrumentals? Or do you mean to play the real song in the background? Is it okay if I listen to it with earphones while singing?

pajo-haha thanks for saying I have potential...I never thought of it like that before. Thank for your tips! I will try them. blush.gif

exactly! great pointers.
i've learned from experience that singing with the artist causes people to imitate and artist. With that, start with songs that are more simple - and midtempo
You have pretty good diction - except again your shyness is causing you to be unsure of certain words - or thats what it sounds like

about the recording tip - most recording programs let you monitor whatever that enters a mic through headphones. So in order for you to get the best out of your recording session, you'd want to be able to adequately hear yourself. if your program allows it, put reverb or echo into your mic feed so you feel more confident.

don't try to sound like anyone but yourself, don't try to make yourself sound prettier or anything - you're voice is plenty pretty

practice scales to train yourself to stay on key - this gets harder as you start singing more difficult songs - lukewarm water like the person above said, is great for your voice

always warm up the voice, especially in the morning

its always nice to have a friend, or even better a professional, to give direct feedback on how you're using your voice
most importantly
keep yourself confident - dont let people bring you down
sure maybe theres a lot of work to be done, but all of us has been there before, s'all good

Yeah, play the song with the artist and sing-a-long with him/her. Yeah, it's okay if you listen to earphones while singing. While practicing, you should listen to the artist without headphones, you need to hear youself while singing (so you can distinguish your faults and errors). Don't worry about the fact that you're copying the artist. That's where everybody starts. They copy, sing very well AND THEN they develop their own style. No shame in that. Add us.

OH, and about the msn thing...I don't have msn. I could get it if I need to. Um...would one-on-one tutoring mean me singing something and directly sending it to you? or just talking...

also, thank you aliks089 for clarifying what you mean and for the pointers. smile.gif

It will be you using your mic and headphone and starting a voice conversation with us, so we can hear you directly as you practice and we'll be giving you direct help on what to do to improve.

^Okay, sounds cool, but I would only be able to do it once in a while, since I don't have much time. Maybe sometime during april break (21-25). Could you pm telling me when you have the time? Or just post in this thread.
