from what i've heard, it's a competitor with BMW, MERCEDES, and other luxury vehicles, but i was wondering...is it ACTUALLY A GOOD CAR? it just boggles my mind..i mean researching isn't gonna help since there aren't really helping at all. What would you rather take, SAAB 9.3 2.0L Turbo or something else for that price range?

here are some pix, it's 5 speed automatic with shiftronic, and also paddle shifter on the wheels. it's 2003 Saab 9.3T with 32,000 miles on it. Sells for $16,000, and the pre-owner took care of this car like no other. (No scratches, no accidents, no problems on vehicle history)

im just trying to help someone buy a car..haha so i thought i could just ask some of the soompiers since some of you MIGHT have driven this car in the past.

lol It's a Euro brand that doesn't have much of a name here in the US. I know they had a 9^3 built by Subaru and Saab. It was basically the 2.5L straight 6 in a Saab exterior.

I don't know much about them expect they are very rare.

Some people say Saab has reliability issues but you won't know until you drive it over a long period of time but since it is in good condition then I say get it. It is a trendy looking car.

I really like the styling of the new Saab 9-3s. I would also know because I know nothing about Saabs except that Subaru and Saab cars share many components. A friend I know used to have a WRX wagon and he flipped it going skiing. He replaced it with almost the same car in the Saab trim.

Saab is now owned by GM Motors, and to be honest, i'm not even sure what they (GM) have done to Saab (Saab is a swedish car maker). Reminds me of what happened to Volvo after Ford bought them in 1999. Ford literally had a impact on how Volvos were designed and made, which did result in lower reliability, all sorts of recalls, etc.

From what i've heard and this is only what i've heard (I don't know the exact details or reasoning), I've heard the GM screwed over Saab much more than what Ford did to Volvo...

actually u are right about subaru and saab sharing components, and if i know subaru, their quality is really good. I know this because i own two vehicles myself. smile.gif , but to be honest i think GM can't really make anything that's good now days. Even though i like chevy corvettes, i have so many people who got ripped off from GM's VERY LIMITED warranties. Anyways back to the point, I test drove this baby and OH MY GOD, it was one of the most coolest and comfiest ride (driver side) i've ever ridden in my life so far. Man if i had money i would definitely buy this. It's like Hyundai sonata, after one year they depreciate so much, That's the right time to buy that car..i think it would bug the hell out of me IF i was the one purchasing a car. This was definitely one of the coolest, especially Futuristic plastic looking key between the two front seats, once i put the key in you hear this power up sound like in star wars and so many buttons to PUSH~!!!

Only time I ever encountered a problem with a Saab was when my dad and I tried to call a tow truck for these kids because their Saab lost 3rd gear. And also aren't all Saab's turboed?

the 9-3 isnt related to subaru at all. the engine is all GM/saab. the only thing saab ever took from subaru was the 9-2x. i dunno what everyone else is talking about, but only the 9-2 came with the subaru boxer, the other engines offered for saabs other lines were either GM inline4s or turbo V6s

After my first car was totalled, I was looking at Saab and Volvo as their price and features did appeal to me. I ended up going to the Volvo. Don't get me wrong, but the Saab was quite good too.

i've been driving this car for the past 2.5 years. same color, same model. in all 2.5 years of driving, i've never had a single problem, not one. just took the car in for its services here and there and i was fine. i have reallyreally horrible luck when it comes to car troubles so its a big deal when i find a car that doesn't give me any problems. if you want a reliable car...i defdefdef recommend you pick this bad boy up.

and for slightly superficial boosters as to why you should get this car:
1) my dude friends that have driven this car wile out over the turbo
2) my chick friends googoogaga over how 'pretty' the car is

my lease is up and so i need to turn the car in. i'm looking around for a new car but honestly i'm about 90% sure i'm going back to the 9-3 again.

post.script. //

papasmurf, you should take it out for a demo sometime.

and yes to whoever asked if saab used to make airplane parts. when you drive the car, you can hear it. i'm in no means educated in car parts and in cars in general, but someones pointed out that when i press down on the break...it sounds like a jet landing.

also the g can already run mid 13s stock and the hks intakes adds an estimated 10 extra hp and the exhausts add like 8 so yeah it should shove off about 1.5 to 2 sec off my times

There is someone who is into the Saab 9-3 and he should know a little about the Saab brand, but I cannot remember who it is. I'm assuming he isn't an active user, at least here in the car forum.

My dad drove a Saab years ago before it konked out on him. He drove it for over 20 years before it died. I've never had the opportunity to drive the car myself, so I can't tell you anything about it.

I believe they have the same engine as jets. My dad also said driving a Saab was like driving a tank. I'd recommend other cars though for longevity though even though the brand like chic.

SAABs are one of the safest cars. They are prestigious but not well recognised.

And yes, SAAB first started making jets. And no, they dont throw in jet engines in the cars.

Bad thing about SAAB is that its hard to get them fixed. Try taking parts out. The way they assembled the car is crazy compared to other cars that can be easy stripped down.

My mother used to own a 93 before she sold it and bought herself a mini cooper crazy.gif

I personally believe GM as a whole has certain reliability issues (with the exception of some). Since Saab was a Swedish brand before being bought by GM, its never really been marketed in the US. As for stories I've heard from France, most people drive Audis but you would still see Saabs more often than in the US. I believe you can go without a hitch if you carefully watch over it though.
