I went to that my senior year too. I thought it was pretty useless, but then again, by the time I went to it, I was already pretty set on going to UCI. All I remember was that there was a panel of students (past and present) who talked about their experience at UCI (including research opportunities and whatnot). You should utilize the mingling/socializing part at the end and talk to the panelists and some of the faculty
AND there was a cheesy video they showed in the beginning, where this girl says, "I C U at UCI!" Unforgettable.

I'll probably still go though; I have NO CLUE what UCI looks like at all or what they offer. Even though I'm relatively sure that UCI is where I'll go, I do want to get a preview/taste of what it'll be like. I should have taken part of spring break to go down ... but I didn't find out I was accepted until near the end of spring break ._.

I'm going to that UCI thing in Oakland on Sunday. I don't really know what it's for, but I figured it'd allow my parents to understand what this UC stuff is all about. haha.
My mom seriously thought that paying for a UC was $20,000 a month, so she started talking about how if she got $50,000, it would only be enough for about 2 months. And I looked at her for a second and was like "OHHHHHH!!! NO! IT'S 20,000 A YEAR, BASICALLY!" haha. Cracked me up for awhile.
I'm excited to go to UCI. I just found my roommate today. So I'm set! Yay. =)

I'm leaning more towards Mesa Court just because it's nearer to the student center. I don't mind walking to the science building. I probably need the exercise anyway.
Oh, yeah! I forgot to state my major. I'm majoring in biological sciences.

Since there seems to be a lot of bio sci majors here, I'll offer one piece of advice:
Avoid getting Prof. Summers as your instructor for any bio classes unless there's no other way out.
I had him last quarter and... I'm never going to pick his classes ever again.
Things to know if you got unlucky...
1. He gives you a zero on an upcoming midterm if your cellphone rings during class, so far I've seen 3 cases. I felt sorry for those people.
2. If it's an upcoming final, and your cell phone happens to ring, then you're screwed.
3. If your cellphone rings and you're hidden amongst 400+ people in lecture, he'll tell the class to point out the culprit saying, "There will be less competition for the rest of you."
4. Most of the time you're pretty lucky in number 3 because no one is mean enough to do that.
5. He seems EXTREMELY ARROGANT when he talks.
6. He will use big words that you've probably never heard before nor will you hear in the future (because I'm pretty sure most of them are made up) to make himself seem so much more intelligent.
7. He sometimes wear thigh-high purple shorts to lecture
8. The quizzes that he gives are VERY VERY annoying. For example, he will ask you a question and then give you 4 multiple choice answers. 90% of the time, none of the choices are correct and he tells you this after you have already spent a good 3 minutes trying to answer it.
9. This one day he lost his voice... best hour I sat through with him.
10. He is VERY conceited. He praises his own stick figure drawings on the board.
Try to go for professors like Gaut, Busciglio (has an accent, but is a very good instructor), and Woods.
And also DO NOT hesitate to go on ratemyprofessor. Extremely helpful site.
End of my shpeal

How's the Bio Sci curriculum? That's what I applied as, but truthfully, I'm not too sure where I'll end up.
I'm just getting super psyched up for all this ;3
& any recommendations on housing?

Housing.... hmm.... Coming from a person who started out in an apartment in his first year, I'll give you my views:
Pros of Dorms (Mesa, Middle Earth)
1. You get to know more people
2. Very active environment
3. you have your own dining halls
4. You get to picks themes and such (not that it matters)
5. On campus
6. You have your own custodian to do the cleaning for you
Cons of Dorms
1. It's almost impossible to study because it's too loud
2. Not very private
3. You have what are called "quiet hours" (i don't really know too much about this because i'm not dorming)
4. Pricey, I'm assuming the prices are going to increase for 08-09
5. Your RA can be your best friend or worst enemy
6. Meal plans are mandatory, and they expire when the quarter ends regardless of whether or not you use them
Pros APARTMENTS (YEA!!) such as campus village, arroyo
1. Private lifestyle
2. You can actually study in your apartment
3. Science library is extremely close to campus village
4. Costs half as much as dorms
5. Meal plans are voluntary and they last for a whole year instead of just a quarter
6. Very quiet and peaceful environment to live in
7. If you live in Arroyo, the ARC is very close by
8. Campus Village is on campus
Cons of Apartments:
1. Not very social
2. Sometimes it's so quiet and peaceful that it may seem dead
3. If you live in Arroyo, you have to take the shuttle to/from campus
4. You pay your rent every month instead of every quarter (it's fine with me, but not some others)
5. You do your own cleaning
Yea, there goes another shpeal. I don't know if freshmen can live in campus village next year though. Originally, I signed up for Arroyo, but got placed into CV because there wasn't enough room in Arroyo. It was totally fine by me though
Costs of dorms are around 9K-11K for a year.
Costs of apartments are around 4.5K-6K a year.
Hope that helps!

Haha, all your posts are so informative! Thanks for posting, I'll keep that information in mind! Do you know anything about the difference between Mesa and Middle Earth or Arroyo and CV?~
