OK, so around the end of March, my main hard drive just... died on me. Completely, so my sister and I manually deleted EVERYTHING off of it, and started from scratch.
Redownloading everything, etc etc.
And it's been around a week (maybe a little longer as well?) since that has happened, and now all of a sudden, my computer is coming up with a crapload of popups, and whenever I click for a 'new tab', the colour changes from a slightly dark gray to a light gray (I've taken screenshots since I can't explain)

^ Click on it for a bigger image.
I don't quite know how to explain this, but I know it's when you're using that one IE window, it's the first colour, if you're working on something else/using another program, it turns the second one.
But for some odd reason, when I click for a new tab, the colour changes to the second one, showing that I'm not "using" the window, when in fact I am.
It also randomly decides to do that too, such as when I'm in the middle of typing, all of a sudden it turns light grey and blocks out half of the stuff I type, which then I have to click on the window, the retype everything. (_o_)

& the popups are really wierd. It's come up with... A LOT of popups, especially those that look like my comp is warning me of a virus, but its really just an ad. I've also gotten a "win a macbook air!" popup like... 5 times today.
For some reason, the google toolbar popup blocker isn't blocking it, and this has NEVER happened to me before! I thought I could just turn it off and the problem was only temporary, but when I went back on it was still the same. ><;; It's wierd.

AND there's also some message that pops up when I first turn on my computer, I think this is the problem, it's something about a buffer? And something about a file being corrupted...
I can't remember, I took a screenshot but then I lost it because I forgot to paste it onto something. When I find it I'll post it up.
EDIT: it popped up again. O_O

I'm using Windows XP, I've had my computer for like... 4 years now. It's been fine, yesterday it worked REALLY smoothly, but today is when all these problems came up.
Not sure what's going on, therefore help? ><

The first problem you have about the different colors, is normal.
When your not using a window, it becomes slightly lighter. This is normal. But when it happens while your actually mid typing, it means a popup has opened, and it has automatically switched to that popup. If you can't see the popup, then it means you have a virus.

The recent spam of popups could also be due to a virus, or even spyware/adware.
Also the problem with the explorer.exe leads me to believe the problem lies within that. Maybe something has replaced explorer.exe with a fake, virus type explorer.exe.
Have you installed anything different, or new or even slightly suspicious recently?

Recommended you do a full scan, and clean up everything you can. If that still doesn't work, then come back.

Are you running a firewall and anti-virus? Because these 2 are essential to any PC!

The first thing you can do is download, Spybot S&D and adware to remove the spywares that are most certaintly running in your system. If this doesn't completely solve the issue, download HiJackThis and post the results in a tech forum like bleepingcomputers.com.

Honestly, I tell this to anyone who has your type of problem.... do a clean windows install...save your most essential files (school work, music, photos), format your drive, and reinstall your windows OS. And then, with a clean slate, properly secure your OS with a anti-virus and firewall, along with spyware, malware removal softwares...
"But when it ends and while it ends, something comes, after so much rage, persistence, obstinacy, extravagance; something entirely unexpected and touching in its mildness and goodness. With the motif passed through many vicissitudes, which takes leave and so doing becomes itself entirely leave-taking, a parting wave and call, with this D G G occurs a slight change, it experiences a small melodic expansion. After an introductory C, it puts a C sharp before the D. . .and this added C Sharp is the most moving, consolatory, pathetically reconciling thing in the world. It is like having one's hair or cheek stroked, lovingly, understandingly, like a deep and silent farewell look. . . . " (Mann: 55).

About the popup, it happens when I'm still typing, but no popup shows up... like, all of a sudden the colour change just happens, nothing comes up.

The last thing I installed was Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 for my brother, and before that a music converter. ><;; I don't believe that it's RCT2, since we previously had it, but perhaps the music converter?
Oh, there is also the Microsoft Word 2007 Trial Edition...

I'm performing the full scan right now with Norton. ><

I'll download the program and check my computer to see if it'll work.
And I am running a firewall and anti-virus.

Ahh, I don't want to format my drive again, but right now it seems as if I don't have a choice. >o<

Lately, this has popped up:

It's happened to me when I open up internet explorer and try to go to my friends page on LJ, it pops up and then closes all my IE windows. ><;
I tried to google it, but nothing has come up. ):

Yeah, like I said, it means you have a virus. The popup doesn't have to show up. It just means your computer automatically switched to the invisible task, thus showing the window as being 'unused'.

They should be quite safe, which music converter is it?

+1 to HiJackThis. I recommended this in another topic. Stupid of me not to recommend it here.

Norton blows. Takes up way too much memory for the non-good it does.

Only format as a last resort.

It says its an addon, so try uninstalling it.
Try searching for the actual file in your documents if uninstalling it doesn't work. Delete it. As it looks suspicious.

Truer words cannot be spoken. Norton is a resource rainbow. The best performance improvement for your computer can be realized by simply uninstalling this atrocious crap of a software. If you're wiling to pay for an anti-virus, get NOD32. And disable windows firewall and replace it with commodo 3.0.

Clean install should be the last resort, but it's usually the case that this is the only resort.

^ Not sure if this is right, but can't you just go into the control panel -> add or remove programs, and then remove IE? o_O

I heard all those things about Norton, and after reading more into it I really think it's no good either. D:
All it ever finds is a tracking cookie after a full scan. No matter how many times I scan my computer. =_=;;

I've scanned my computer with spybot search & destroy about once a day, just to get rid of the excess stuff. But now I think it's fine!! (:
Just when I start up my computer, I get these two pop up messages.
I forget the rest... but part of it is like: "windows\system32\pjoceer.dll" and same beginning, but with "ytsoooyl.dll"
o_O
Not quite sure what that means...

i think you got the ADWARE.Virtumonde thing because it keep download Sh*t down and it's what causes all the pop up >_< i'm sorry i'm using bad word but IE is really annoying me now.

I feel so cheated with VISTA because i can't uninstall IE it is embedded in with vista so i can't find it anywhere in the add/remove. and i think Trojan Remover detected them and i deleted them and it's gone i use spy sweeper as well but then it return after i open IE 7 again. so now i'm updating to the IE 8 beta to see if anything is wrong with it. so i can leave it at beta because something is wrong with IE 7 that it let it download those crazy stuff. Now i'm using opera and firefox. There are website that only IE can open and other browser can't, which is why i use IE. It amaze me that after so many years with web browser microsoft still hasn't improve at all.
