So im a freshman at American High school located around fremont in california. I want to take summer classes at ohlone to get ahead in school. I was planning to take algebra 2. I talked to my counselor and she just gave me a paper and said i had to take a placement test.. Why would i need to take a placement test to take summer classes at ohlone? And do i get credit for the class so that i don't have to take it in high school anymore?

Err, I think this should go in the pre-college thread of the college forum. But anyways, I think anyone who takes a math or science course needs to a placement test. Find out if or how you can be exempt from it on their website. I don't remember if my friend who went there for summer school to take math took a placement test.

The placement test is to make sure that you have enough capabilities to be taking the class; ie, your reading & math levels are enough so that you won't be completely lost in class. Your counselor gave you the R-40 paper, right? At least, that's what I had to get signed & filled out. As for the last part about it being high school credit, you'll have to ask your counselor on that one - it all depends on the school. In some cases, it might just allow you to take Pre-Calc or whatever the next level of math your school offers.

Alright, so if i wanted to take the algebra 2 class, i'd just have to do well in the algebra 1 portion of the test right?
