This is a hard question sometimes..

There's some very nice expensive restaurant out there but my parents always say no, the food can only taste so nice so why bother to pay all the extra?..

and I always say , people enjoy it, you should enjoy it too (to join the people) and so on and so on

do you guys think the high end expensive restaurant is worth it?
is the food that much better?

(btw the pics from the Blue fin thread looked very nice smile.gif)

Well.. I think it's worth it haha.
Me and my family go out to an "expensive" restaurant every other weekend..
Food wise.. I think that the quality of the food is a lot better.
Taste.. Sometimes I think it's better also.

But my dad spends too much money on those types of restaurants.
Him & 8 friends went to a steak house and used $3,000 sleep.gif

depends on the restaurants name, the chef and ratings i guess. 250$ per person at The French Laundry, one of the top restaurant in the world, michelin 3 star rated is worth it IMO.

The only expensive restaurant that I went to was Morimoto (owned by the Japanese Iron Chef) in NYC. It was during the fixed price week which was $24 for lunches and $30 ??? for dinner. I went during lunch time and and the food was so delicious. It's expensive because of the time and effort for the chef to make the food. And the waiter was nice and the restaurant was clean.

it depends, yeah. some restaurants are expensiveeee cause the meat quality maybe. some, are just ridiculously expensive because of the atmosphere/location/setting/etc... like sushi and steak-- super expensive for good quality.

it depends on what kind of restaurant

for food like sushi and steak, it's always worth it
or sharks fin, birds nest, and abalone (i dont think so much in the us, but i mean in hk) ...totally worth it. my favs wub.gif

i've been to some restaurants which i found to be only mediocre. presentation, atmosphere, and everything was awesome but the food itself just wasn't original enough.
i.e. (boston area) ...stephanie's on newbury is pretty pricey for what they have to offer, and imo it's not worth it at all!!

all in all...fine dining is fun! and dressing up for it is fun! [:

I guess, if you're some sort of food connoisseur and try out outrageous foods on the menu...but I'm not the kind of person who has a "sophisticated" taste for foods; I order ordinary things that you could find at any range of restaurants from low to high, so why bother?
Admittedly though, the ambiance and service you experience at expensive restaurants can make the money you spend worthwhile.

I think everyone should go to an expensive restaurant once in their life, just to experience it you know?
I've been to a few expensive steakhouses, worth it in my opinion biggrin.gif

I've never had expensive taste, so even during the couple of times I've been to an "expensive" restaurant, I didn't necessarily feel "OMG, this food is soooo worth the $200!" The service is better, the presentation of the food is better, the chefs spend much more time crafting each plate, but ehhh...I have much more fun with my friends at a casual restaurant lol. The service isn't the best, the food isn't highest of quality, but I feel more comfortable in that kind of setting at this point in my life. I'll save the sophisticated, expensive dining for when I'm out of college and living the high life biggrin.gif.

Oh, and I'm not a big steak eater, so I wouldn't spend $50 on a 4 oz. slab of beef :/...I DO love sushi though, that's the only food I'd be willing to fork over a bit more money for.

I think that as long as we keep it to once a year, or something like that, it's alright. There are some restaurants whose food totally deserves its cost, and there are others that aren't worth the money.

My dinner at Bluefin was my first time at a semi-expensive restaurant. I know some places where they pay $60+ for one meal... I think that's kind of pushing it, unless it's a very, very special occasion. And anyway, the experience remains as a special memory only if the occasions are rare.

I've been to restaurants where its around 200-300 per head, just for the food, not the win and it was delicious, however I thoroughly enjoyed myself at restuarants which were around 100 per head.

It really depends on the restaurant, as the price is usually determined by the menu and exclusivity.

Sydney's East has the greatest eateries.

Depends on the place. These's this one place I know has really good super white tuna ... but the waiter/waitress's are super snooty and stuff. It's also like $9 per piece of super white tuna. I find it really really outrageous. So I hardly go there anymore, the quality of the food compared to the price isn't really worth it. Luckily I found aplace who charged way less for it and has better service, price and food. <3
