[ i wonder if this is the right place to put this ? ]

so i was informed today about the high rise of the price on rice. 18.50 on a 25lb of Jasmine Rice.
when you compare this to 10.50 only 3 months ago .. O_o
i'm talking about the wholesale price that it comes to me when i get it. now what's being sold at oriental markets nearest you smile.gif

how many of you just absolutely LOVE rice ? just because your asian doesn't mean you have to like it.
i'm indifferent to it. i can live without. can you live without your everyday bowl of ...
jasmine rice .. or sweet rice .. or sushi rice .. or red rice .. black rice .. brown rice .. . . . . . ? your preference tongue.gif

haha. ediit // i just thought .. this is the greatest time to be on a protein diet ^O^ save myself alot of money and rice biggrin.gif
fabulous timing :]

[move this or close it, if its been posted. or if its in the wrong section. oops XD]

would you accept it ? ]

Japanese style short grain rice has pretty much stayed at the same price, at least around where I live.

yup it is true my mom told me the price has doubled at the cali viet supermarket. Price of 50 lb bag went up from $20/bag to $37/bag

apparently prices of all commodities(corn, wheat, rice). they blamed the rise on forecast of rising demand and decline in supply but much of it is due to speculation.there have been people hoarding rice to make a profit

also someone has suggested the falling dollar is forcing rice exporters like Thailand and VN to raise prices to make up for their lost earnings.

economics aside, we ve been buying rice from costco. doesn't taste as good but

I'm a disgraceful Asian, I don't eat very much rice lol. I used to eat it every day as a kid, but now...No, my appetite is more branched out, and I probably eat rice 1-2 times a week, sometimes not even once. So I could live without rice, of course certain meals would feel empty and I'd be sad, but I could live with it.

well my parents have always complained about the price of rice. i guess the good part is that we buy it by the ton, so we're not buying as often at the store.

i love rice. i mean i've eaten almost everyday of my life, so it is a must have. as far as types of rice...i like jasmine and sweet rice. and for dessert, i like purple and black rice with custard, and green rice with mangos.

Rice is yummy. No matter how expensive it is, we just have to have it.

Criticism does not equal bashing.

i've no idea about the rise in price cause I don't buy it. but with regards to whether or not i can live without it then yes, i can. i'm always complaining about how rice is the only thing we have at home everyday. i get really sick of it, so i tend to dine out with friends a lot for a western dinner.

Here in the Philippines, we're having a rice crisis.
Of course who else to blame but the corrupt governemnemt.
Instead of spending millions of pesos for self-interst they should've thought
about our future first.

I only eat one type of rice but I have no idea what it's called.
I guess it's the basic white rice. It doesn't smell anything, but it tastes heavenly.
My sister bought brown rice once and all I can say is, gross.

I don't like to eat rice.
I can don't eat rice for a whole week without even feeling anything awkward.

the price of rice has been predicted to increase. my dad wants to stock up but my mum insists that we have no room and even if there is an increase, it wouldn't be so drastic that we can no longer afford to buy it. I used to be the biggest rice eater in the house but I probably have it once every few days now so there isn't a need to buy as much. which reminds me, the asian supermarket close to my house is having a sale on jasmine rice. 18 lbs for $7.99 GinaxDongseng, where do you live? that's very expensive for rice..

my favourite type of rice for everyday living is japanese rice. but i also like multigrain rice because of its hard texture.

I love and I eat everyday. And yeah, my mom has been talking about the rising prices of rice and other foods, like bread. It costs so much for rice now, but I can't live without it.

everyday, it's You i live for...

I believe besides the fallen dollar, another reason for the price increase is the low supply. Obviously everyone is stacking up, making the supply even lower than before. As a community, I think everyone should find an alternative to rice and keep the demand low until there is enough supply forcing the companies to lower the price eventually when the supplies are back to normal. This is in hope of having the dollar value go up as well. Any economics savvy kind person have any thought or suggestion on this?
