Oh my gosh, so I'm really freaked out right. I haven't even told my parents yet because they'll freak me out even more.

So I got my eye-checkup today - and honestly my optometrist was so young and unprofessional, don't you hate doctors like that? Grr!!

Anyway, after the checkup, she was like "It's really scary how many blood vessels have formed in your eyes considering your young age. You need to stop wearing your contacts to sleep, otherwise you won't be able to wear contacts later on"
And I was so scared that I was trying to ask her more questions like "So if I remember to take them off for a few hours everyday, will I be okay, I won't go blind or anything?" I even asked her if I should take them off even more than just when I sleep if it's that bad. But she wouldn't answer me, she just shrugged and kept saying really casually "I dunno, it's better than nothing.. Those vessels don't go away. Your eyes are okay, just remember to take off your contacts at night."
But why wouldn't she answer any of my quesions!!

Anyway, I really don't wanna have to wear glasses for the rest of my life. So should I be taking off my contacts for more than my sleep, or is that enough (coz I don't have glasses). Are there any other precautions I should take? I'm so angry that my optometrist treated everything so casually after saying "That's scary.."
WTH, is she just trying to scare me? It seems if it was really serious, she would have sat me down and told me more about what I should do.

If I'm really careful from now on, will I be okay? tears.gif

Relax - your eyes are fine and you will not be forced to wear glasses only for the rest of your life o^_^o.

Seeing as how the doctor was young, she was more than likely trying to approach you as a friend than a scary authority figure. But, seeing as how you disliked her approach, you're under no obligations to go back to her next year - find a doctor that you like and mesh well with o^_^o.

As for your eyes though, discontinue wearing contact lenses at night. I cannot stress how bad it is for your eyes. Contacts already limit the amount of oxygen that reach your eyes - sleeping in contacts only exacerbates the situation. Since you do not have glasses, not wearing them during the day is not really feasible. Remembering to take them out before bed at night really will do wonders for your eyes and help with the blood vessels. If you are able to wear your contacts a few less hours everyday, than do so (i.e., taking them off at 7:00PM instead of 10:00PM) - it will help a little, but like your doctor stated, it isn't pivotal. Also, remember to change your contacts whenever you're supposed to. Don't wear a two-week lens for a month, and don't wear a monthly lens for several months. Overwearing contacts lenses also promotes blood vessel growth.

I hope this helps! o^_^o - And im sorry you had such a bad experience at the doctor's office :( - there are still plenty of good doctors out there <3

^ Oh gosh, thank you so much for taking the time to read that and respond! That made me feel a lot better. I'll do that, I had really bad habits like wearing my contacts overnight and not changing them for months at a time.

Hopefully, I'll be able to do the laser eye surgery soon - but my optometrist told me that I wouldn't be able to unless I take better care of my eyes.

Thanks again!
