Going into college, I for sure thought I was going to do international business. However, after realizing that my language skills are not very useful, I dropped international business and decided to pursue a major in Computer Science. Before i could take any of my computer science, I had to take my GEC's to fulfill it, such as higher course math and physics and stuff. After taking my first CS&E class (intro to JAVA).. I realize I really hate this stuff. I'm not sure if there are any good programmers out here on soompi, but I'm just absolutely slow at grasping the concept. We have labs that are supposed to take about an hour, but they take me 4-5 hours. Also, the people in my class already have previous knowledge of programming, some have been programming since they were 8. I'm just a noobie. I'm very good with computers when it comes to networking and fixing them, but when it comes to the alogrithms and logic, I'm just not good at it. It's been bothering me a lot lately, because I feel like I've already spent so much of my time investing in the gec's for cs&e that I feel like I wasted my time doing nothing. I think I really want to be come a dermatologist, but I feel like I AM SO BEHIND my friends because they already chose bio major so I would have to take freshman chem next quarter(I'm a sophomore going into a junior) and then having to worry about mcat's is going to be nerve recking(I'm not exactly the brightest kid). I mean I could just stick and do business... but what should I do? I need advise...please.

hm..i think u should do what u like and will enjoy. i think freshman and sophomore year's all about discovering who u want to be and what u want to do with ur life. so, it's never too late! if u want to become a dermatologist, u can probably start taking the prereqs and preparing for it starting this summer or something so u won't feel toooo behind in the fall. you're going to be choosing a career that u want to do for a very loong time. so i probably wouldn't settle for anything..i think that if u really want to be a dermatologist, then u can do it!!! being a little behind shouldn't keep u from doing what u want.

i hoped that helped!! and good luck!!

Do what YOU want to do! A sophomore turning junior? That is soo not late at all. Trust me. I've been there done that. I have a whole story about when/why/how I finally decided to go for the change. (If you want to hear my story feel free to PM me ^.^) You're actually lucky for figuring this out now. I decided I didn't want to study pharmacy after 4 years of college, and I was/am in the same situation as you're in right now. I thought it was too late for me and I felt like I was falling way behind my friends if I decided to pursue something else. But in the end, if you think about it hard enough, it's not a matter of whether you're falling behind or not. The obvious, but often forgotten, question is "Are you happy with what you're doing?" If you keep studying something that you have no passion for, it will eat you up inside. If you really want to pursue dermatology, go for it! It's not too late~~

jumping from international business to comp sci to dermatology is a big leap, and i don't see any correlation between why you chose any of those majors. it seems like to me that you're just interested in a lot of things, but once you actually try them out and find it too challenging, you want to switch out to another major that sounds interesting. i can't say that i know you, but if you follow the same pattern, i have a feeling that once you switch majors to bio [dermatology], you will find that difficult too and think of something else you want to do.

i'm not saying you should stop hopping, but maybe you should get to know people in the major you want to get into. ask them about the courses and what they have to go through in order to excel in the classroom and life. do that before you switch out again.

honestly, i think business is easiest of the majors you listed in terms of brain power. business has social aspects you gotta overcome, but if you can deal with it, you should be set. i used to be in MIS / Accounting before I switched to comp sci. Business was much more fun and I got to meet a lot of cool people. Comp sci is more solitary, but it has it's own perks. it's a very comfortable job if you know what you're doing.

do your research about different careers and go from there.

Yeah you need to find something you enjoy. You have some time but you need to decide real soon. If you haven't been doing this by now get rid of the "university required classes" i.e. "x units of sciences, x units of math..." stuff. Anyways in college, the cliche quote where they say "you find yourself in college" or whatever is true =P But you really need to find out what interests you and research which majors apply to what you're interested in.

This is normal...like others have said, fresh and soph years are all about exploring...i went from computer sci to psych to business management to criminal justice...luckily cj at my campus is strictly an upper division major...therefore...im still finishing on a 4 year plan....do what makes you happy...not ur parents...cause its you whos gonna be using ur degree for the rest of ur life...=)
