All students who will enter the University of California directly from California high schools in fall of 2008 must take the Universitywide Analytical Writing Placement Examination unless by April 1, 2008, the University has on record for them a test score that satisfies the Entry Level Writing requirement:
* 30 or better on the ACT Combined English/Writing test; or
* 680 or better on the College Board SAT-II Writing Test; or
* 680 or better on the College Board SAT Reasoning Test, Writing section; or
* 3, 4 or 5 on either Advanced Placement (AP) Examination in English; or
* 5 or above on an International Baccalaureate High Level English A exam
* 6 or above on an International Baccalaureate Standard Level English A exam
I fulfilled the bolded requirement.

I didn't have to take it, but all of the people around me who took it HATED it. There's only one part to the AWPE-- an essay. And I think you get something like.. three hours to write it.
For those who will be taking it, definitely check out this for sample essays for each score.

I guess it depends on how you look at it, as well as what you're better at. Some people might have gotten lower Writing scores because of the grammar/multiple choice section - maybe that's just not their strongpoint. Others got their scores dragged down because short-essay-writing wasn't their forte. So if you're the kind of person who bombed the grammar section but did well on the essay, you should do well on the AWPE.
I, for example, got a 780 on my writing section. I got a perfect score for the multiple choice, but like, a 9/12 on the essay hahah. So I definitely wouldn't do well on the AWPE

i am confused by what the uc's sent me. it said that if i got a c or higher on a transferable class, like ap english comp, that i could count that. Does this mean you have to pass the ap test to get the credit? i got a b+ in ap english and am hoping that once the college receives my transcript i will be omitted from taking that damn workload class..gr
please let me know!
thanksss.
p.s. gah i feel like i epically failed, so yes..please withhold your remarks..>_<
