I have one pc at home and I want to add an additional screen to it. I'm planning to have the pc in my bedroom so I use it for h/w or other things, and ONLY A SECOND MONITOR SCREEN on the room next to mine since I'm planning to turn it into a dance studio.

IS THERE A WAY/OR CAN I ADD AN EXTRA MONITOR SCREEN TO MY PC?

I have a COMPAQ Window XP 2000

yes go buy another videocard smile.gif

Without much detail about the PC you have I cant give you any suggestions on what card to get.. If you want you can always get a old ATI PCI card with dual output.. Im sure no matter how old or new your compaq is it will have PCI smile.gif

if the card you have right now has two ports then you dont need to buy anything else.

look at the back of your computer tower. if you see 2 video inputs (ie. 1 VGA dsub + 1 DVI OR 2 VGA dsubs OR 2 DVI) then you can simply plug both monitors in (its possible to use the S-VIDEO output too, but most LCDs lack inputs although you'll see them on TVs). i have a feeling you have a integrated video card (cant tell from the info you gave us), so you'll only have 1 VGA port. in that case, you'll hafta buy a video card (will cost ~$50) to throw in there.

look at this pic. see where it says INTEGRATED? you may only have that part. in this case, the guy had 2 VGA ports for 2 monitors, although usually you only have 1. so you may need the ADD-ON VIDEO CARD (lower part of the picture). it will give you 2 inputs you can use.

give us more info and we'll be able to give more specific help.

I'm not sure but wouldn't a KVM switch of sorts work? Something like this? I'm assuming you would want to use only one of this at a time? That wouldn't let you control the computer since it doesn't have any additional inputs but I'm sure some variant would? Also I'm guessing your cable is going through the wall?

I believe there are also those wireless box that can take a signal and broadcast it to another device - also another possibility.

if you plan to only use one monitor at a time for 2 separate computers then a KVM switch would work
but i think the person wants to do a dual monitor setup where u have 2 monitors for one computer
if the latter is the case you do need a video card, since ur current one is integrated into ur mobo

@ anazianblonde: according to your pic, your computer is a compaq presario S0000.

looking it up on the net, the specs are :
QUOTE
Compaq Presario S0000 Series
Celeron 2.8Ghz
Windows XP
256 RAM

I believe it has a free AGP slot (educated guess--others can confirm this). so you need a AGP video card. ANY agp video will suffice if you just wanna have dual monitors (*2 monitors max, not 3).

the WHITE-coloured box is what the AGP slot looks like. in this pic, the AGP slot is brown.

Thanks a lot! i'm think this will help a lot. just make sure, this wont be like a half and half thing right? like half a pic is on one screen and the other half is on the other screen?

yes, you can have that (called extended desktop) OR clone mode (both monitors display same thing). its easily changable through the drivers once you install them.
