They do that on VCDs so we can get both cantonese and mandarin. they do this by having MANDARIN on the left(??) channel and CANTONESE on the right channel (?? not sure if i got the order right ??). its a primitive way of doing it, but since the VCD format doesnt support real audio track switching, its the ONLY way to do it without having 2 separate VCDs of the same movie but in different dialects. all VCDs i've watched from hk are like this.
anyways, now that you understand, goto
PLAY >AUDIO AND LANAGUAGE TRACKS > then choose RIGHT channel OR LEFT channel. depending on whether you prefer mandarin or cantonese.

this also applies to when you play it on your DVD/VCD player. switch the audio to the RIGHT
or LEFT (not both) track to hear either mandarin/cantonese.
problem solved. have fun.
