Why Are American Universities So Expensive?!

american public universities are really set up to "cater to" american students. that's why tuition is so insane for international students. i know that UC's are about $20000 for in-state (about 7000 - 8000 for tuition). for out-of state or international, it's like $10000-$20000 more. And ppl who attend UC's who are out of state usually get scholarships.
privates are expensive, because the classes are smaller, and it's more personal. you get to know the professors better, and privates have connections to a lot of companies for internships and job opportunitites.
I'm know those aren't the only reasons, but the ones i can think off the top of my head.

^ i wouldnt say privates are more expensive because of smaller classes...that's not always true and a lot of private Us are just as big as the public ones.

Private schools are more expensive because they're not supported by our taxes. Education in general is getting expensive since the US economy is doing poorly. I just know that California is doing super badly and we're getting all these blah blah educational budget cuts so tuition is more expensive now.

It's probably different for you because you're not a resident... if you're talking about a public school. For example, if I wanted to study in Canada it would be a lot more expensive for me than $5K ^^;
