but honestly, korean phrases are so overused because of the popularity of kroean dramas

i think it's cus i'm too "Americanized"
and i'm just better off by calling people by their names.
i don't like calling anyone Oppa or Unni's either,
except for my own sister.

i think of it as a for fun nickname.
in person, i wouldn't really do that unless i'm re-wording a phrase or line that caught my attention xD
hmm.. the only things slipping out of my mouth would be "Aya~" but it's not necessarily a korean term

so the Korean guy being cheeky said.....youre supposed to call me oppa!
So for the whole day the Chinese guy kept calling the Korean guy JAE OPPA!!

I was called 'nuna' by a friend of mine in Canada because he was helping me out before I got here [Korea] with just whatever words, phrases, etc. he could. I'd feel strange using the terms but I do love hearing them from native speakers. Well...for the most part. The screeching version does kinda get to me
Can I ask a question while I'm here though? If I want to address someone I don't really know all that well, is it alright to use -ssi? They're usually a good few years older than me, if not almost a decade. Haven't meant people my own age really so I haven't had to figure that out just yet, =p.

If they don't do that and they're talking to a japanese fob, or someone thats really into japanese manners
then it's really rude. Korean people do that too. (Ex. Name-shii, Name-Teacher, Name-Doctor, etc.)

We shouldn't put boundaries on how we can communicate, if it works between two parties and a clear message is sent and received then it's all good.
